الوصف: BackgroundEmerging issues in the management of major depressive disorder (MDD) comprise a nonadherence to treatment and treatment failures, depressive recurrence and relapses, misidentification of incoming exacerbated phases and consequently, a chronification of depression. While antidepressant drugs constitute the standard of care for MDD, effective psychosocial interventions are needed to reduce rehospitalizations and other adverse events. The present study primarily investigated the effects and impact of implementing a structured psychoeducational intervention on the clinical course of MDD.MethodsA non-randomized comparative, pragmatic, pilot, single-center study of adults with nonpsychotic moderate or severe episode of MDD recently discharged from a psychiatric hospitalization. The consecutive subjects were allocated either to the intervention group (N=49) or to the attention control group (N=47), based on their preference. The psychoeducational intervention was based on a modified Munoz’s Depression Prevention Course. Subjects were followed up prospectively for two years.ResultsThe absolute changes in Beck anxiety inventory scale, Zung’s depression questionnaire, and Montgomery and Äsberg depression rating scale (MADRS) total scores at 6-month follow-up were comparable between the two groups. There were lower rates of the rehospitalization within one year (2.1% vs. 16.7%; P

الوصف: The potential of digital games in education has been widely discussed, yet there is a significant gap in the literature regarding their influence on foreign language learning, particularly in Central Europe, and using mixed-method research designs. This study aims to fill this gap by providing empirical data from a new cultural context. Using a mixed-method research design, it investigates the impact of gaming on language learning outcomes of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) university students. A total of 99 Slovak university students of English as a foreign language were selected by convenience sampling, of which 10 were chosen for qualitative interviews to triangulate the data. The results reveal a significant improvement in vocabulary knowledge and a reported increase in positive language attitudes among gamers compared to non-gamers, with no significant difference in grade point averages between the two groups. These findings highlight the potential of digital gaming to enhance vocabulary learning and foster positive attitudes towards language learning among EFL students. Recommendations for future research are provided.

الوصف: This article investigates the impact of a liberal migration policy that increases labour quotas by 5% on wages and income of residents, native migrants, and new migrants. The article focuses on the impact of migration in 21 areas, with particular attention given to Slovakia and Germany. It is based on data collected from the Global Trade Analysis Project database and the experimental design by Walmsley, Ahmed, and Parsons, with adjustments to capture current global migration flows. The findings indicate that the immigration of new unskilled workers negatively impacts the real wages of unskilled residents, decreasing them by almost 3%, while the arrival of skilled workers increases them by 0.73%. Similarly, the real wages of skilled residents decrease by 2.62% due to the arrival of new skilled migrants, while unskilled migration results in its increase by 0.53%. These findings can aid policymakers in developing policies that maximize the benefits of migration. This research provides new insights into the wage effects of migration in different areas, focusing on Germany and Slovakia.

مستخلص: Objective: A lack of movement in adolescence is a pressing issue for modern society. Physical education at school can have a major influence on the movement habits of adolescents, since it can offer curriculum that gives students ideas for leisure time while entertaining them and also respecting physical fitness goals. The aim of this work is to analyze student satisfaction with physical education classes at secondary vocational schools. Methods: Categories were created based on week-long monitoring of walking. Based on the number of steps, students were divided into four categories: active girls/boys and hypoactive girls/boys. In another part of the study, the students filled out the questionnaire created by Antala et al. (2012). Responses to questions regarding questions about unpopular activities, dread of specific activities, and more frequent inclusion of specific activities in PE classes. A X[superscript 2] independence test was used to compare data between individual student categories in the combination table. Results: The health recommendations for minimum daily number of steps are met by 65.4% of boys and 75.8% of girls aged 15-16 years. Chi-squared test showed the greatest difference in satisfaction with physical education (P-value <0.001) between the hypoactive groups of students. Hypoactive boys are significantly more satisfied with the activities in PE class than hypoactive girls. Dread is more often present among girls than boys and is particularly associated with gymnastics. Activities that students wanted to do more often included ball games (football for boys, volleyball for girls), strength training (listed by 32% of hypoactive boys) and exercise to music (listed by 49% of hypoactive girls). Conclusions: We believe that the proper choice of PE activities can increase the popularity of the class, and thus influence the exercise habits of adolescents, including those who are found to have insufficient physical activity.

مستخلص: In recent years, the need for English as a foreign language (EFL) education in schools has become a priority worldwide. The aim of our paper is to investigate which countries currently focus on researching motivation to learn EFL and what potential reasons are behind the focus. We performed a topic search of the keywords "EFL" and "motivation" in the "Web of Science" database for 2020. In total, we found 61 Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) articles. Asia prevails, especially Eastern Asian Chinese speaking regions (Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong). Policies in Asian regions such as China and Taiwan highly support EFL. There is the aim to develop Taiwan into a "bilingual nation". Likewise, the European Union promotes the establishment of the so-called European Education Area within which studying and training should be accessible and profitable for people living in the EU. Spain remains the European country with the highest number of EFL motivation publications. There were only a few papers from the Americas. In South America, we see evidence of the beginnings of a CLIL push, which has the potential to lead to expanded EFL motivation research in these previously under researched areas. مستخلص: With the current emphasis placed on ICT skills development in education, accurate information about how well students master these skills becomes invaluable. Despite the wide-spread use of self-report measures of ICT skills, their accuracy has been questioned. An analysis, on a large sample, of the heterogeneity in reporting behavior in the domains of ICT competencies is, as far as we know, missing; we fill this gap. We investigate the (in)comparability of self-reports of online communication skills (e.g., the using of social networks, data sharing) among two contrasting groups of students: (1) elite, high-performing grammar schools; and (2) economics schools (total N = 1,070 students, 17 secondary schools). Using the anchoring vignette method, we identify scale usage differences among respondents and adjust their self-reports for these differences. We show that grammar school students significantly underestimate their skills. Before the adjustment, grammar school students report significantly lower levels of online communication skills. After the adjustment, grammar school students have non-significantly higher levels of these skills. Differential academic demands thus might be a relevant factor in students' self-assessment of online communication skills. In practice, students' under-/over-estimation of skills might impact their access to ICT-related jobs and the effectiveness of educational decision-making in the ICT domain. We also show the potential of the anchoring vignette method to explain paradoxical negative relationships between self-reported skills and results on the achievement tests identified in the literature. Further research could explore this phenomenon in other domains of digital competence and among other student populations.

مستخلص: The anchoring vignette method has been proposed as an innovative approach to solve the problem with self-assessment data incomparability caused by the differences in scale usage between respondents. In this study, we use a set of 15 anchoring vignettes describing different domains of ICT skills (Information, Communication, Content creation, Safety, and Problem solving) to examine the differences in scale usage between Czech upper-secondary students (N = 166) studying at different types of schools in these domains of ICT competence. Our preliminary results suggest that students studying at different types of schools seem to have different standards for vignette evaluation (i.e. they use the scale differently), however, we also identified certain similarities in the way students from a particular school use the scale across the five ICT competence domains. Such findings might be of high relevance for the further use of the anchoring vignette method in ICT competence research, however, further investigation in this research area is necessary. الوصف: Abstract Drug‐induced long QT syndrome (LQTS) and Torsades de Pointes (TdP) are serious concerns in drug development. Although rats are a useful scientific tool, their hearts, unlike larger species, usually do not respond to torsadogenic drugs. Consequently, their resistance to drug‐induced arrhythmias is poorly understood. Here, we challenged rats with rapid delayed rectifier current (Ikr)‐inhibiting antibiotic clarithromycin (CLA), loop diuretic furosemide (FUR) or their combination (CLA + FUR), and examined functional and molecular abnormalities after stimulation with isoproterenol. Clarithromycin and furosemide were administered orally at 12‐h intervals for 7 days. To evaluate electrical instability, electrocardiography (ECG) was recorded either in vivo or ex vivo using the Langendorff‐perfused heart method under basal conditions and subsequently under beta‐adrenergic stimulation. Gene expression was measured using real‐time quantitative PCR in left ventricular tissue. Indeed, FUR and CLA + FUR rats exhibited hypokalemia. CLA and CLA + FUR treatment resulted in drug‐induced LQTS and even an episode of TdP in one CLA + FUR rat. The combined treatment dysregulated gene expression of several ion channels subunits, including KCNQ1, calcium channels and Na+/K + ‐ATPase subunits, while both monotherapies had no impact. The rat with recorded TdP exhibited differences in the expression of ion channel genes compared to the rest of rats within the CLA + FUR group. The ECG changes were not detected in isolated perfused hearts. Hence, we report rapid orchestration of ion channel reprogramming of hearts with QT prolongation induced by simultaneous administration of clarithromycin and furosemide in rats, which may account for their ability to avoid arrhythmias triggered by beta‐adrenergic stimulation.

مستخلص: Self-assessment measures are commonly used in questionnaire surveys. However, one of the problems with self-reports is that they may be prone to differences in scale usage among respondents. The anchoring vignette method addresses this issue. It relies on two assumptions: response consistency and vignette equivalence. Here we aim to develop a framework for the examination of these assumptions using cognitive interviews and demonstrate it in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills domain. First, we develop new anchoring vignettes describing various ICT skill domains. Second, we examine both assumptions using cognitive interviews with students who are studying different fields. Our analysis shows that the assumptions are indeed not adhered to, especially the assumption of vignette equivalence. Third, we develop a general framework for the examination of the method's assumptions.
