الوصف: Food sharing is increasingly making its way in cities, offering new opportunities to tackle inequalities and shape more sustainable and resilient urban and peri-urban food systems. However, food sharing initiatives face multiple policy barriers that hinder its potential. Drawing on an international review of existing studies of Food Sharing Initiatives (FSI) governance, this first policy brief of the CULTIVATE Project summarizes key governance barriers that currently limit the sustainability potential of FSIs and also distils a suite of high-level policy recommendations to rectify this.

الوصف: Horizon Europe is the European Union's key funding program for research and innovation. It tackles climate change, helps achieve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, and boosts the EU's competitiveness and growth. This study analyzes AI-driven innovation in cancer surgery through projects funded by the Horizon Europe Program. The systematic review method was used in this study. The methodology for this review was prepared according to PROSPERO. The study adhered to the 'Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses" guidelines to ensure comprehensive and transparent reporting. It was found that the projects within this review aim to address a variety of challenges, including improving tumor identification and margin delineation, personalizing treatment plans, and automating surgical procedures. The projects analyzed in this systematic review represent a promising step forward in the development of AI-powered cancer surgery. These projects can significantly impact the field by improving surgical precision, personalizing treatment plans, and automating surgical procedures. The research also underscores the need for continued research and development, particularly in addressing challenges related to data integration, algorithmic transparency, and clinical implementation. As AI continues to permeate the healthcare landscape, its impact on cancer surgery is poised to be profound. The insights gleaned from this study provide a valuable roadmap for future research directions and clinical applications, paving the way for a future where AI empowers health professionals to deliver personalized, effective, and transformative cancer care.

الوصف: Objective: The research objective is to indicate current priorities of the European Commission in funding modern technologies that enhance situational awareness and preparedness for CBRN events in urban areas. Methods: We analysed strategic documents of the European Union informing CBRN safety and security Horizon 2020 program priorities and the proposal which won the call HORIZON-CL3-2022-DRS-01-08. This process allowed us to indicate patterns reflecting European Union’s priorities in funding development of modern technologies to enhance both the awareness and the preparedness. Results: Investigation of 7 fundamental documents gave strategic background for applying modern technologies that enhance situational awareness and preparedness for CBRN events in urban areas. Relevant directions were reflected in the call for proposals named Disaster-Resilient Society 2022. Only one proposal was selected for funding and it now forms the basis for CHIMERA project (the full project title is: Comprehensive Hazard Identification, and Monitoring systEm for uRban Areas). The project’s mission is to provide a technological improvement in the CBRN domain complying with European legislation and boosting the capabilities of end-users with novel detection, identification, and monitoring functionalities at relatively high TRL. Discussion: As CHIMERA project describes directly many of issues addressed in the call for proposals, the current directions reflect strategic assumptions for ensuring safety and security in Europe. The project also uniquely concerns CBRN response capability gaps identified by International Forum to Advance First Responder Innovation. Success story of CHIMERA proposal may serve as a reference in developing new technologies in a project formula in the future.

الوصف: The paper focusses on a collaboration between academia and industry. As an introduction, we present typical behavior of university researchers, who often define the area of application without consulting it with industrial partners, and we propose different approach which led to the definition of the scope of the WrightBroS project. The project, entitled “Collaborative Factory of the Flight Simulators Branch of RISE” is financed by the European Union in the frame of Horizon 2020 MSCA Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE) programme. The international Consortium composed of Higher education (Silesian University of Technology from Poland) and industrial (LG Nexera from Austria and Virtual Reality Media from Slovakia) sectors, has designed a project as a collaborative platform whose know-how results from knowledge sharing among partners. Then, from the experience gained in the implementation of the WrightBroS and other similar projects, by using case-study methodology we demonstrate how representatives of education and industry in the new joint environment supplement each other in common research efforts. We also present methods for knowledge sharing, in particular achieved by intersectoral staff exchanging. Then we present the results achieved by collaboration of Higher Education with Industry in the WrightBroS project. Finally, the discussion in the context of tackling broader challenges of intersectoral collaboration leads to the conclusions that this kind of environment is very efficient way to overcome typical difficulties in academia and industry dialog, which is so common in the global world.

الوصف: The increasing pervasiveness of intelligent mobile applications requires to exploit the full range of resources offered by the mobile-edge-cloud network for the execution of inference tasks. However, due to the heterogeneity of such multi-tiered net- works, it is essential to make the applications’ demand amenable to the available resources while minimizing energy consumption. Modern dynamic deep neural networks (DNN) achieve this goal by designing multi-branched architectures where early exits enable sample-based adaptation of the model depth. In this paper, we tackle the problem of allocating sections of DNNs with early exits to the nodes of the mobile-edge-cloud system. By envisioning a 3-stage graph-modeling approach, we represent the possible options for splitting the DNN and deploying the DNN blocks on the multi-tiered network, embedding both the system constraints and the application requirements in a convenient and efficient way. Our framework – named Feasible Inference Graph (FIN) – can identify the ...

الوصف: This paper investigates the drivers and dynamics of clustering and inter-project collaboration within the framework of the Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020 projects. Leveraging a survey-based approach, we examine key themes surrounding the perception of clustering, the willingness to share information under legal confidentiality, and motivations for engaging with partners from different projects. The survey instrument, implemented via Microsoft Forms, was distributed among the consortia of eight EU projects participating in the SOLID4B cluster. Notably, the questionnaire was meticulously crafted based on an in-depth analysis of the SOLID4B case and comprehensive discussions with project coordinators and communication and dissemination managers from all participating projects. These discussions aimed to establish a clear roadmap for the cluster, ensuring the questionnaire’s relevance and usefulness for all participants. Data analysis was conducted within the same platform, facilitating efficient data processing and visualization. Our findings reveal that a significant majority of respondents (48 out of 55) perceive clustering as a valuable asset, indicative of a positive shift in perspectives. Challenges related to confidentiality were addressed through nuanced insights, with respondents demonstrating a willingness to share routine best practices, significant breakthroughs, and deliverables within a legally protected framework. Furthermore, a robust majority (40 out of 55) expressed a keen interest in collaborative endeavors, underscoring a collective drive to extend activities beyond individual project boundaries. The study highlights the importance of clustering with other projects in maximizing the impact of the Horizon program, extending stakeholder networks, and sharing knowledge and achievements in research and innovation. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of the motivations and challenges surrounding clustering and collaboration within the Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020 projects. Ultimately, the findings pave the way for informed strategies aimed at fostering a dynamic and interconnected research community.

FEAST is designed to create a paradigm shift towards food systems that are fairer, healthier, and more environmentally friendly for all actors, particularly vulnerable populations. Our pathway to impact will begin by working through a Multi Actor Approach (MAA) to leverage the results and outputs from FEAST to ensure broad-scale strategic dissemination of the project’s findings and key messages, enabling their uptake and integration in future strategies and practices developed by local, regional and national governments, and simultaneously engaging the general public (e.g. consumers, citizens, etc.), production/supply side actors and young professionals in the implementation of such strategies - thus inspiring each target group to move upwards in the engagement pyramid, and further exploiting FEAST’s potential to build capacity.
