مستخلص: The value derived from hedonic goods is affected by reference effects at the time of consumption, usually in the form of quality standards. Consumption typically involves two steps: first, the consumer chooses a given good, among a pool of available choices; then, the consumer experiences the good and derives a satisfaction from it. We investigate the role of references in these two phases, taking into account potential selection bias in the satisfaction outcome. We develop a flexible framework for quality references, that can include one's own past experiences, as well as that of others, and can give salience to more recent or more distant experiences. Using novel longitudinal data from restaurant reviews, we find evidence of quality loss aversion in the choice decision, in accordance with prospect theory. Surprisingly, for those choices of lower quality, satisfaction is not negatively affected as much as one would expect. This is consistent with consumers adjusting their expectations downward and suggests that expectation adjustment protects consumers when they experience a lower-than-reference quality. Our results imply that it may be better to visit restaurants in a zigzag that alternates between high- and low-quality choices, compared to in crescendo or U-shaped ordering. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: • Continuous home inotropic infusion represents a possible and efficient therapy in patients with advanced heart failure (HF), documenting an improvement in quality of life, end organ damage and hospitalization rate. • Tailored inotropic therapy can provide benefits not only as bridge to Heart Transplantation, bridge to mechanical circulatory support or bridge to candidacy but also in patients with a palliative care (PC) program. • A multidisciplinary team with HF and PC specialists, HF specialist nurses and general practitioner is fundamental for the management of advanced HF patients intravenous continuous home inotropic therapy. Intravenous inotropic support represents an important therapeutic option in advanced heart failure (HF) as bridge to heart transplantation, bridge to mechanical circulatory support, bridge to candidacy or as palliative therapy. Nevertheless, evidence regarding risks and benefits of its use is lacking. we conducted a retrospective single center study, analysing the effect of inotropic therapies in an outpatient cohort, evaluating the burden of hospitalizations, the improvement in quality of life, the incidence of adverse events and the evolution of organ damage. twenty-seven patients with advanced HF were treated in our Day Hospital service from 2014 to 2021. Nine patients were treated as bridge to heart transplant while eighteen as palliation. Comparing data regarding the year before and after the beginning of inotropic infusion, we observed a reduction of hospitalization (46 vs 25, p <0,001), an improvement of natriuretic peptides, renal and hepatic function since the first month (p <0,001) and a better quality of life in 53% of the population treated. Two hospitalizations for arrhythmias and seven hospitalizations for catheter-related complications were registered. in a selected population of advanced HF patients, continuous home inotropic infusion were able to reduce hospitalizations, improving end organ damage and quality of life. We provide a practical guidance on starting and maintaining home inotropic infusion while monitoring a challenging group of patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: This paper provides discussion of the forty-seven decisions reported on LEXIS regarding hedonic damages testimony by economic experts from March 1, 2018, to July 1, 2022. It is an update to previous papers by the author in 2012 and 2018 looking at decisions involving hedonic damages from 2000 to 2012 and 2013 to February 28, 2018. The trend has been that hedonic damage calculations showing specific dollar values for either loss of enjoyment of life, loss of value of life, and/or loss of ‘‘Society and Relationship’’ have continued to be rejected, but explanations for the concept of hedonic damages and discussion of the Value of Statistical Life literature have continued to be allowed in the state of New Mexico. مستخلص: The industrial sector plays a significant role in global economic growth. However, it also produces polluting effluents that must be treated to prevent environmental damage and ensure the quality of life for future generations is not compromised. Various physical, chemical, and biological methods have been employed to treat industrial effluents. Filamentous fungi, in particular, have garnered attention as effective bioremediation agents due to their ability to produce enzymes capable of degrading recalcitrant compounds, and adsorb different pollutant molecules. The novelty of the work reported herein lies in its comprehensive assessment of the research surrounding the use of white- and brown-rot fungi for removing phenolic compounds from industrial effluents. This study employs a systematic review coupled with scientometric analysis to provide insights into the evolution of this technology over time. It scrutinizes geographical distribution, identifies research gaps and trends, and highlights the most studied fungal species and their applications. A systematic review of 464 publications from 1945 to 2023 assessed the use of these fungi in removing phenolic compounds from industrial effluents. White-rot fungi were predominant (96.3%), notably Phanerochaete chrysosporium, Pleurotus ostreatus, Trametes versicolor, and Lentinula edodes. The cultures employing free cells (64.15%) stand out over those using immobilized cells, just like cultures with isolated fungi regarding systems with microbial consortia. Geographically, Italy, Spain, Greece, India, and Brazil emerged as the most prominent countries in publications related to this area during the evaluated period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: In the recent decades, remarkable successes have been recorded in the treatment of Hodgkin's lymphoma to the point that today it represents one of the neoplasms with the highest rates of cure and with the highest life expectancy. Nonetheless, this raises the concern for the health of long-term survivors. Late side effects of treatments in synergy with other risk factors expose survivors to increased morbidity and impaired quality of life. In the complexity of the topics concerning these last aspects, an area of growing interest is that of bone damage that follows Hodgkin Lymphoma and its treatments. In this narrative review, we conducted our work through assessment of available evidence focusing on several aspects linking bone damage and quality of life with Hodgkin lymphoma and its treatments. At present, the problem of osteopenia and osteoporosis in Hodgkin lymphoma survivors is a theme for which awareness and knowledge need to be implemented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: Age-related muscle atrophy (sarcopenia), characterized by reduced skeletal muscle mass and muscle strength, is becoming increasingly prevalent worldwide, which is especially true for older people, and can seriously damage health and quality of life in older adults. This study aims to investigate the beneficial effects of 5′-cytimidine monophosphate (CMP) on H2O2-induced muscular atrophy in C2C12 myotubes. C2C12 myotubes were treated with H2O2 in the presence and absence of CMP and the changes in the anti-oxidation, mitochondrial functions, and expression of sarcopenia-related proteins were observed. Immunofluorescence analysis showed that CMP significantly increased the diameter of myotubes. We found that CMP could increase the activity of antioxidant enzymes and improve mitochondrial dysfunction, as well as reduce inflammatory cytokine levels associated with sarcopenia. RNA-seq analysis showed that CMP could relieve insulin resistance and promote protein digestion and absorption. Western blot analysis further confirmed that CMP could promote the activation of the IRS-1/Akt/S6K signaling pathway and decrease the expression of MuRF1 and Atrogin-1, which are important markers of muscle atrophy. The above results suggest that CMP protects myotubes from H2O2-induced atrophy and that its potential mechanism is associated with activating the IRS-1/Akt/S6K pathway to promote protein synthesis by improving mitochondrial dysfunction and insulin resistance. These results indicate that CMP can improve aging-related sarcopenia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: The extent of extravalvular cardiac damage is associated with increased risk of adverse events among patients with severe aortic stenosis undergoing aortic valve replacement (AVR). The goal was to describe the association of cardiac damage on health status before and after AVR. Patients from the PARTNER (Placement of Aortic Transcatheter Valves) 2 and 3 trials were pooled and classified by echocardiographic cardiac damage stage at baseline and 1 year as previously described (stage 0-4). We examined the association between baseline cardiac damage and 1-year health status (assessed by the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire Overall Score [KCCQ-OS]). Among 1,974 patients (794 surgical AVR, 1,180 transcatheter AVR), the extent of cardiac damage at baseline was associated with lower KCCQ scores both at baseline and at 1 year after AVR (P < 0.0001) and with increased rates of a poor outcome (death, KCCQ-OS <60, or a decrease in KCCQ-OS of ≥10 points) at 1 year (stages 0-4: 10.6% vs 19.6% vs 29.0% vs 44.7% vs 39.8%; P < 0.0001). In a multivariable model, each 1-stage increase in baseline cardiac damage was associated with a 24% increase in the odds of a poor outcome (95% CI: 9%-41%; P = 0.001). Change in stage of cardiac damage at 1 year after AVR was associated with the extent of improvement in KCCQ-OS over the same period (mean change in 1-year KCCQ-OS: improvement of ≥1 stage +26.8 [95% CI: 24.2-29.4] vs no change +21.4 [95% CI: 20.0-22.7] vs deterioration of ≥1 stage +17.5 [95% CI: 15.4-19.5]; P < 0.0001). The extent of cardiac damage before AVR has an important impact on health status outcomes, both cross-sectionally and after AVR. مستخلص: Introduction: People with non‐severe haemophilia appear to be under‐treated in many countries, and this may lead to joint damage and worsen quality of life. Aim: To review literature for clotting factor replacement prophylaxis in people with non‐severe haemophilia A and B (HA/HB) in relation to long‐term outcomes to support clinical decision‐making. Methods: A targeted literature search was performed to identify studies published between 2000 and 2021 that included prophylaxis in people with non‐severe HA/HB and long‐term outcomes, including annualized bleeding rates, joint health and quality of life. Results: Although eligible articles included 2737 and 2272 people with mild or moderate HA, respectively, only 22% (n = 609) and 29% (n = 668) reported treatment regimens. A total of 549 people with moderate HA were treated with factor replacement prophylaxis and were from high‐income countries. On the contrary, nearly all people with mild HA received desmopressin (n = 599). Details of treatment regimens for women with haemophilia and people with HB were sparse. Three studies provided long‐term outcomes for people with moderate haemophilia who received prophylaxis with factor concentrate, supporting early prophylaxis in people with a frequent bleeding phenotype regardless of their endogenous clotting factor level to preserve joint health. Conclusion: There remain large knowledge gaps when considering how to provide optimal treatment for people with non‐severe haemophilia. Nonetheless, there is a strong rationale that prophylaxis should be considered early in life according to similar strategies as for severe haemophilia for those with a frequent severe bleeding phenotype.
