    الوصف: Plasma diagnostics is a key tool to support the further development of plasma-induced chemical conversion of greenhouse gases (such as CO2) into high-value chemicals. For this reason, spectroscopic and electric measurements of low current (below 1.7 A), stationary arc plasmas in CO2 at atmospheric pressure with addition of N-2 or H2O are reported. High-speed photography, imaging emission spectroscopy and time-resolved electrical measurements are used to obtain time-space resolved gas temperatures as well as the electric-field current characteristics of the discharge. It is found that the lowest average electric field in a CO2 arc plasma at atmospheric pressure is similar to 20 kV mm(-1) at a current between 0.8 and 1 A. If the current decreases below this level, the arc remains in vibrational-translational (VT) equilibrium by increasing the electric field. However, VT equilibrium conditions can be only maintained until a threshold minimum current of 0.33 +/- 0.05 A, at which the arc transitions into a non-equilibrium condition with further increasing electric fields (reaching 68 +/- 15 V mm(-1) at 0.03 A). The addition of N-2 or H2O did not influence the electrical characteristics of the CO2 arc within to the tested mixtures. However, there is only a significant decrease in the electric field of the formed transition arcs and the threshold minimum current in the presence of N-2. The spectra of the low-current CO2 arc is found to be dominated by emission from the C-2 Swan band system and the O I 777 nm triplet peak. However, the CN band dominates the spectra even when small amounts (0.5 wt%) of N-2 is present in the plasma. The gas temperature at the axis of the CO2 arc plasma decreased slightly with decreasing current, from an estimated 7000 K at 1 A down to 6300 K at 0.4 A. The thermal radius of the arc is estimated to be larger than 1.2 mm, more than two times larger than the optical radius obtained from the emitted radiation. The addition of N-2 and H2O (up to 7 and 9 wt% respectively) lead to only to a 500 K decrease in the axial arc temperature.

    الوصف: With the worldwide construction sector being responsible for one third of carbon dioxide emissions, as well as forty percent of the world’s energy use and waste production, a shift to sustainable and renewable construction techniques is crucial. Engineered timber, a champion of sustainable construction materials, has evolved to a stage that enables the construction of not only family housing but also taller buildings so far commonly built from concrete or steel. Designing taller timber buildings made is more demanding than their concrete and steel counterparts. Whereas different design aspects (architectural, structural, fire safety, acoustics, etc.) of concrete buildings can work almost independently, the design of taller timber buildings should be performed with intensive collaboration among the design teams. It is therefore crucial to address taller multi-storey timber buildings from a collaborative and interdisciplinary perspective, considering static, dynamic, fire, acoustic, human health, and other aspects in parallel and not in isolation. Only through interdisciplinary analysis and interaction can a set of holistic design guidelines be developed that will enable the safe construction of taller timber buildings, as well as respect human wellbeing demands. In this paper, the COST Action CA20139 will be presented and the main aims will be discussed.

    الوصف: The end-grain bonding of timber components using the Timber Structures 3.0 technology (TS3) is an advancing construction method in timber engineering. This technology allows the realisation of any plate size by bonding plates on-site where low temperatures influence the performance. Therefore, investigations are underway to evaluate the influence of the low temperatures on the curing process. Additionally, research is in progress to discover techniques to reduce any adverse effects of low curing temperatures on the mechanical properties of the bond. The implementation of particular measures, such as the inclusion of milled heating wires into the joint and the pre-heating of the joint with a hot air blower, has been identified as advancing the potential for grouting even in the face of low external temperatures, as recent research has indicated.

    الوصف: A switching-off process very similar to those in real high-voltage self-blast circuit-breakers is emulated in a model chamber to study the arc properties by optical emission spectroscopy. The arc is operated in a chamber filled with SF$_6$ between a pin-tulip contact system enclosed by a PTFE nozzle. Transparent windows in the chamber wall and a slit in the nozzle enable an optical investigation of the arc cross section less than one millisecond before current zero. The side-on radiance of a fluorine atom lines has been measured with an imaging spectroscopic system. Considering rotational symmetry of the arc the corresponding radial emission coefficients have been determined by Abel inversion. The radial temperature profiles are calculated from the emission coefficients including pressure measurements and the corresponding plasma composition. In contrast to previous studies, a specific iterative approach is proposed to consider the optical thickness of the plasma. A maximum optical thickness between 0.2 and 0.4 has been observed. Temperature profiles corrected for absorption effects show increasing maximum temperature in the arc axis with decreasing current towards current zero. The effect of the plasma composition on absolute arc temperatures is discussed. The temperature profiles can be used to validate CFD simulations of the switching-off process in the model chamber.

    الوصف: A metadata schema, named Plasma-MDS, is introduced to support research data management in plasma science. Plasma-MDS is suitable to facilitate the publication of research data following the FAIR principles in domain-specific repositories and with this the reuse of research data for data driven plasma science. In accordance with common features in plasma science and technology, the metadata schema bases on the concept to separately describe the source generating the plasma, the medium in which the plasma is operated in, the target the plasma is acting on, and the diagnostics used for investigation of the process under consideration. These four basic schema elements are supplemented by a schema element with various attributes for description of the resources, i.e. the digital data obtained by the applied diagnostic procedures. The metadata schema is first applied for the annotation of datasets published in INPTDAT -- the interdisciplinary data platform for plasma technology.

Die Leistungsfähigkeit von Holztragelementen kann durch mechanische Verstärkungen, z. B. in Form von eingeklebten Stäben, selbstbohrenden Vollgewindeschrauben oder Gewindestangen, partiell noch erhöht werden. Verstärkungen von Verbindungen oder Tragelementen werden im Holzbau notwendig, wenn die Querschnittsgeometrie eingeschränkt ist oder wenn z. B. gebogene, gekerbte oder durchbrochene Bauteile verwendet werden. Die Wirkungsweise wie auch das statische Trag- und Versagensverhalten von Verstärkungen ist u. a. in Blass et al. (2006, 2010, 2017), Dietsch (2012, 2017) und Trautz & Koj (2008) gezeigt. Zusätzlich zu den statischen Beanspruchungen ergeben sich auch klimatische Beanspruchung aufgrund der Hygroskopie des Holzes und des variierenden Umgebungsklima übers Jahr.

The MC affects the physical and mechanical properties as well as the dimensions due to shrinkage and swelling below the fibre satura-tion point (FSP). Due to constrained volumetric strains, e.g. due to swelling and shrinkage, changes in moisture content impose moisture induced stresses (MIS) which, if exceeding the tensile strength perpen-dicular to the grain of the material, can cause fractures such as cracks or delaminations. Thus, the correct estimation of the MC is important for the design, quality assurance, and durability of timber bridges. There was the question especially for large glulam members as produced by block-gluing about the impact of ambient climate variations on the moisture induced stresses and possible failure. Block glulam beams form wide cross-sections by gluing single glulam beams to each other. They are used as, e.g., main struc-tural elements for timber bridges, see Figure 1. Therefore, cross sections of practical dimensions were clas-sified regarding the assumed ambient climate in service by numerical simulations that showed the moisture content and gradient over the cross section. Finally, the moisture induced mechanical response was simu-lated using a coupled moisture diffusion and mechanical model. The results were summarized to a practical advice for the dimensioning.
