    الوصف: Introduction: The purpose of this study was to characterize how family influences diabetes self-management in Mexican American adults. Methods: Data were analyzed from previously collected data that included 34 semi-structured interviews with Hispanic adults with diabetes and six focus groups with 37 adults with diabetes and family members. Themes related to family and diabetes management were identified and analyzed using a modified template approach. Results: Family-related facilitators to T2DM self-management were (1) provides support, (2) provides motivation, and (3) desire to protect family from diabetes. Family-related challenges were (1) lack of support, (2) family responsibilities, and (3) stress related to family. Diabetes education was shared with family members. Family member perspectives on T2DM included (1) not knowing how to help, (2) effect on emotional wellbeing, (3) diabetes affects the whole family, and (4) family provides support. Conclusion: Most participants with T2DM felt supported by family, but many desired more social support and support surrounding dietary changes from family. Many felt family did not understand what living with diabetes meant for them. Most family members wished to learn more about how to help. Future interventions should include family members and teach them supportive strategies to support beneficial diabetes self-management behaviors.

    الوصف: Abstract Background Diabetes self-management (DSM) helps people with diabetes to become actors in their disease. Deprived populations are particularly affected by diabetes and are less likely to have access to these programmes. DSM implementation in primary care, particularly in a multi-professional primary care practice (MPCP), is a valuable strategy to promote care access for these populations. In Rennes (Western France), a DSM programme was designed by a MPCP in a socio-economically deprived area. The study objective was to compare diabetes control in people who followed or not this DSM programme. Method The historical cohort of patients who participated in the DSM programme at the MPCP between 2017 and 2019 (n = 69) was compared with patients who did not participate in the programme, matched on sex, age, diabetes type and place of the general practitioner’s practice (n = 138). The primary outcome was glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) change between 12 months before and 12 months after the DSM programme. Secondary outcomes included modifications in diabetes treatment, body mass index, blood pressure, dyslipidaemia, presence of microalbuminuria, and diabetes retinopathy screening participation.     الوصف: BACKGROUND: Executive functioning (EF) predicts better Type 1 diabetes (T1D) management in the high-risk years after high school, but the daily self-regulation processes involved are unclear. PURPOSE: To examine whether EF is associated with daily self-regulation that minimizes ones exposure or buffers adverse reactions to daily diabetes problems, and to determine whether these patterns become stronger during the transition out of high school. METHODS: A measurement burst design with convenience sampling was used. Seniors in high school with T1D (N = 207; 66% female) completed self-report (i.e., Behavioral Rating Inventory of Executive Functioning) and performance measures of EF (i.e., Delis-Kaplan Executive Function System). A 14-day daily diary assessing self-regulation failures, diabetes problems, affect, and indicators of diabetes management was completed at baseline and 1 year later. RESULTS: Correlations and multilevel modeling were conducted. Lower self-reported EF problems were associated with lower average levels of daily self-regulation failures, and these variables were associated with fewer daily diabetes problems. In contrast, better EF performance was unrelated to average daily self-regulation failures, and was unexpectedly associated with more frequent diabetes problems in year 2. Equally across years, on days participants reported lower than their average levels of daily self-regulation failures, they had fewer diabetes problems, regardless of EF. On days with lower than average diabetes problems, participants reported better diabetes management indicators. EF generally did not buffer daily associations in either year. CONCLUSIONS: Regardless of EF, promoting daily self-regulation may prevent diabetes problems and promote T1D management in daily life at this high-risk transitional time.

    الوصف: This study aimed to investigate the use of and willingness to adopt web-based technology for self-management of type 2 diabetes among Arabic-speaking immigrants in Saudi Arabia. Conducted in Taif in 2022, it involved participants with type 2 diabetes mellitus, utilizing a study-specific questionnaire to gather data on demographics, disease specifics, and attitudes towards using this technology for diabetes management. Out of the 109 individuals who responded, 91 completed the survey and reported accessing web-based technology and an average usage of two hours per day. The primary use was for social media (90.1%) and information searching (73.6%). The study found a high willingness to use web-based technology for dietary planning (85.7%), physical activity monitoring (94.5%), and communication with healthcare providers (93.41%). Notably, younger participants, those with higher education, and married individuals showed more inclination towards using such technology, as indicated by significant correlations (p < 0.001, CI = 0.03–0.38; p < 0.039, CI = 1.06–10.26; p = 0.024, CI = 1.23–19.74). Over half of the participants (56%) considered web-based technology beneficial for diabetes management, with many finding it time-saving (61.5%). In conclusion, a significant proportion of participants demonstrated a strong preference for integrating web-based technology into their diabetes self-management routines. This preference was particularly evident in key areas such as diet, physical activity, and glucose monitoring. These findings underscore the potential of web-based technologies in supporting effective diabetes management among Arabic-speaking immigrants, highlighting the need for targeted interventions that leverage these digital tools.

    الوصف: Background: Diabetes self-management education (DSME) improves glycemic and metabolic control. However, the frequency, duration and sustainability of DSME for improving metabolic control have not been well studied. Methods: The Diabetes Share Care Program (DSCP) stage 1 provided DSME every 3 months. If participants entering DSCP stage 1 ≥ 2 years and HbA1c < 7%, they can be transferred to stage 2 (DSME frequency: once a year). Three-to-one matching between DSCP stage 1 and stage 2 groups based on the propensity score method to match the two groups in terms of HbA1c and diabetes duration. We identified 311 people living with type 2 diabetes in DSCP stage 1 and 86 in stage 2 and evaluated their metabolic control and healthy behaviors annually for 5 years. Results: In the first year, HbA1c in the DSCP stage 2 group was significantly lower than that in the stage 1 group. In the first and the fifth years, the percentage of patients achieving HbA1c < 7% was significantly higher in the DSCP stage 2 group than the stage 1 group. There was no significant difference in other metabolic parameters between the two groups during the 5-year follow-up. Self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) frequency was associated with a reduced HbA1c after 5 years (95% CI: −0.0665 to −0.0004). Conclusion: We demonstrated sustainable effects of at least 2-year DSME on achieving better glycemic control for at least 1 year. SMBG contributed to improved glycemic control. The results may be applied to the reimbursement strategy in diabetes education.

    الوصف: The Sustainable Development Goals target for 2030 is to reduce by 70% the number of deaths from non-communicable diseases, and the highest number of cases is diabetes mellitus, namely 80%. One strategy that can support this program is to carry out Diabetes Self-Management Education to help change lifestyles and improve patients' quality of life. Family and community participation must be formed through integrated service post cadres with family-based diabetes self-management education assistance in Bagelen Village, Gedong Tataan, Pesawaran, Lampung. The activity aims to increase knowledge and behavior of diabetes self-management education by integrated service post cadres. The method used in service activities includes three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The activity results show that assistance in implementing family-based Diabetes Self-Management Education increases Health Cadres' knowledge about self-care management for diabetes patients. Increased knowledge is known from changes in knowledge level scores after service, from poor and sufficient to sufficient and good knowledge.

    الوصف: Objective: The study aimed to investigate the feasibility of a remote mindfulness based self-management intervention for individuals with type 2 diabetes. It is important to further our understanding of how to improve self-management to improve health outcomes and low levels of uptake to self-management courses. Method: 29 participants with type 2 diabetes were recruited from the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS trust. Three groups of participants engaged with a remote mindfulness based self-management intervention, which were delivered sequentially. After each intervention was complete, patient feedback was retrieved and implemented into the following intervention. The quantitative analysis comprised of descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, paired sample t-test and multiple regression analysis. A qualitative analysis was also conducted through reflexive thematic analysis (RTA) to understand participant’s perspective on the intervention. Results: There was a total of 17 who attended the course (59 %) and a total drop out of 12 participants over the three courses (41 %). The qualitative findings reported three main themes: (1) Eating to manage my emotions rather than my diabetes (2) Implementing mindfulness has helped me manage my emotions (3) Medication rather than self-management behaviours control my diabetes. The focus group feedback included participants’ appreciation of the community aspect of the intervention and their perception that the current course was more interactive compared to previous interventions. In addition, participants highlighted the importance of offering the course at an earlier stage of diagnosis to provide further support at the beginning of their diabetes journey. No significant findings were reported for the independent sample t-test, paired sample t-test and multiple regression analysis. Conclusion: The qualitative findings suggested that the course was beneficial, especially in demonstrating how mindfulness could aid self-management for individuals living with type 2 diabetes. Further funding and trials are warranted to improve the quality of technology used and to assess impact on diabetes control and mental health.

    الوصف: Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a health problem in the world. Currently, the number of DM cases globally has reached 537 million people, and Indonesia ranks fifth highest in the world. Low knowledge and dietary compliance are a problem that continues to contribute to new cases and relapses of old cases characterized by uncontrolled increases in blood sugar. This is caused by low self-efficacy which is characterized by feelings of hopelessness. Objectives: The aim of this research was to determine the effect of Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) on self-efficacy in type II Diabetes Mellitus patients. Methods: This study used a Quasy-experimental design, with a pretest posttest equivalent control group design, the sample size was 68 type II DM patients, consisting of 34 intervention groups and 34 control groups. Self-efficacy data was collected using the DMSES (Diabetes Management Self Efficacy Scale) questionnaire. Univariate analysis was used to describe the frequency distribution of respondents, mean, median and standard deviation. Next, bivariate analysis used the Wilcoxon test. Results: There was a significant difference in the difference in mean value self-efficacy between before and after intervention with p-value 0.000 < 0.05. Conclusion: Diabetes Management Self Efficacy Scale is effective increase self-efficacy. Thus, DSME can be an alternative intervention to overcome problems and prevent complications in DM patients.

    الوصف: PurposeWe aimed to report the latest and largest pooled analyses and evidence updates to assess the effectiveness of telemedicine interventions for self-management (DSM) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).MethodsA systematic literature search was conducted using PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, and Web of Science in December 2023. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of adults (≥18 years of age) diagnosed with T2DM where the intervention was the application of telemedicine. The Cochrane Risk of Bias Assessment was used to evaluate quality. The study’s main outcome indicators were glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and diabetes self-management (DSM) capacity.ResultsA total of 17 eligible articles, comprising 20 studies and 1,456 patients (734 in the intervention group and 722 in the control group), were included in the evidence synthesis. The baseline characteristics of both groups were similar in all outcomes. Comprehensive analyses showed post-intervention decreases in HbA1c, 2-h postprandial glucose, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, increases in Diabetes Self- Care activities, DSM competencies based on dietary and medication adherence, and improvements in overall DSM scores, all of which were statistically significant. While no statistically significant differences were observed in body mass index, lipids, and other DSM dimensions.
