الوصف: Purpose: Despite advances in flexible ureteroscopy, the high cost and long repair time of ureteroscopes limit their use in the urology. We compared the performance of a novel flexible ureteroscope (fURS) ‘HF-EH’ with that of the two contemporary fURSs ‘URF-P6’ and ‘COBRA’. Materials and Methods: We compared in vitro measurements of deflection angle, irrigation flow rate, and image quality between HF-EH and URF-P6 while also inspecting renal collecting systems in five female pigs. For clinical testing, we performed retrograde intrarenal surgeries using HF-EH in four patients. Experienced urologists compared performance parameters (irrigation, convenience, and maneuverability) between the HF-EH and COBRA. Results: The flow rate of HF-EH (21.0 mL/min) was worse, and its resolution (1.59 line pairs/mm) was inferior to that of URF-P6 (28.7 mL/min and 3.17 line pairs/mm, respectively). However, HF-EH was superior to URF-P6 in terms of loss of deflection angle with the insertion of accessories (1.8% vs. 12.7%). In vivo and clinical testing revealed that the performance parameters of HF-EH were slightly inferior to those of conventional domestic fURSs. We successfully performed retrograde intrarenal surgeries using HF-EH in four patients and achieved stone-free statuses in two. None of the patients exhibited any procedure-related complications. Conclusions: Although we observed that two of the three performance parameters of the novel ureteroscope ‘HF-EH’ were inferior to those of the conventional ureteroscope, we successfully used HF-EH to perform retrograde intrarenal surgeries in patients. Further studies on performance and durability are warranted for making HF-EH commercially available.

الوصف: The use of graft materials in bladder mucosa has been examined in animal models, but debate exists over which materials are effective. Intestine has been used as a substitute in augmentation cystoplasty for patients with neuropathic bladder, but serious adverse effects of the operation have occurred in some instances. We report a case of a successful repair of an enterovesical fistula by use of bovine pericardium. The patient has remained well for 2.5 years. We suggest that bovine pericardium may be a suitable option as a bladder substitute. الوصف: 현재 DDT (4,4'-(2,2,2-trichloroethane-1,1-diyl)bis(chlorobenzene))와 같은 유기염소계 살충제 (organochlorine insecticide)를 대체할 물질로 fenitrothion (O,O-dimethyl O-4-nitro-m-tolyl phosphorothioate), parathion-methyl (O,O-dimethyl O-4-nitrophenyl phosphorothioate)과 같은 유기인 계 살충제 (organophosphorous insecticide)가 전 세계적으로 가장 널리 사용되고 있다(Fig. 1). 2~15년의 반감기를 갖고 있는 유기염소계 살충 제에 비해 대부분의 유기인계 살충제는 1~2일 정도의 짧은 반감기를 갖고 있어 생태계의 축적 률이 적을 뿐만 아니라 자외선 및 미생물 등에 의해 쉽게 분해가 일어난다. 하지만 최근 이러한 유기인계 살충제의 이점에도 불구하고 과다한 살포로 인해 토양이나 농작물에 잔류농약으로 남아 인간이나 동물에게 침투 시 중추신경계에 장애를 일으키게 된다. 현재까지 알려진 fenitrothion과 같은 유기인계 살충제를 분해, 비독성화 방법으로는 화학물질 을 이용한 분해방법, 효소를 이용한 분해방법, 금속착물을 촉매로 이용한 분해방법, 광촉매를 이용한 분해방법 4 등이 있는데 본 연구에서는 금 속착물 촉매 분해방법의 일종인 Fenton 반응을 이용하여 분해시도 해 보았다. 일반적인 Fenton 반응은 식(1), (2)에서처럼 수용액에서 2가 혹은 3가 철 이온과 과산화 수소가 반응하여 수산화 라디칼 이온이 생성되는 반응을 말한다.

الوصف: Summary form only given. Single Langmuir probe (SLP) is one of the well-known electrostatic diagnostic methods, which can measure various plasma parameters, such as electron temperature, plasma density, and plasma potential. However, the SLP cannot be applied in some plasmas, such as dust plasmas and processing plasmas containing deposition gases or dust particles, without probe tip cleaning. To overcome the weakness of the SLP, a floating harmonic method (FHM) has been recently developed and extended researches based on the FHM have been studied. This FHM measures plasma parameters using the relation between a fundamental frequency current and a second harmonic current, and thus, a careful consideration for the stray current is needed when the FHM is used. In this study, a sideband method (SBM), which is based on the FHM but no consideration of the stray current, is studied and the comparisons of the measured electron temperature and the plasma density from the conventional FHM and the SBM are investigated. The SBM can be helpful to the plasma diagnostics for the large-area plasma reactor or fusion device reactor, which has a long measurement cable length or a large amount of the stray current.

الوصف: Cucumber (Cucumis sativus) seedlings grown in a horizontal position develop a specialized protuberance (or peg) on the lower side of the transition zone between the hypocotyl and the root. This occurs by suppressing peg formation on the upper side via a decrease in auxin resulting from a gravitational response. However, the gravity-stimulated mechanism of inducing asymmetric auxin distribution in the transition zone is poorly understood. The gravity-sensing tissue responsible for regulating auxin distribution in the transition zone is thought to be the endodermal cell. To characterize the gravity-stimulated mechanism, the auxin efflux facilitator PIN-FORMED1 (CsPIN1) in the endodermis was identified and the localization of CsPIN1 proteins during the gravimorphogenesis of cucumber seedlings was examined. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that the accumulation pattern of CsPIN1 protein in the endodermal cells of the transition zone of cucumber seedlings grown horizontally differed from that of plants grown vertically. Gravistimulation for 30 min prompted changes in the accumulation pattern of CsPIN1 protein in the endodermis as well as the asymmetric distribution of auxin in the transition zone. Furthermore, 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid inhibited the differential distribution of auxin as well as changes in the accumulation pattern of CsPIN1 in the endodermis of the transition zone during gravistimulation. These results suggest that the altered pattern of CsPIN1 accumulation in the endodermis in response to gravistimulation influences lateral auxin transport through the endodermis, resulting in asymmetric auxin distribution in the transition zone.

الوصف: We screened the Arabidopsis cDNA library to identify functional suppressors of AtBI-1, a gene that suppresses cell death induced by Bax gene expression in yeast. Cdf 3 encodes a 118-amino-acid protein with a molecular mass of 25 kDa. This protein has two uncharacterized domains at amino acids residues 5-64 and 74-117. In the present study, CDF3 was found to induce growth defects in yeast and arrested yeast growth, although the cell-growth defect was somewhat less than that of Bax. Its localization in the inner mitochondria was essential for suppression of yeast-cell proliferation. The morphological abnormality of the intracellular network, which is a hallmark of AtBI-1, was attenuated by Cdf 3 expression.

الوصف: Cucumber seedlings display not only gravitropism but also peg formation in response to gravity. Gravimorphogenesis is mediated by auxin distribution. As first step to reveal the mechanism that regulates auxin distribution by auxin efflux, we isolated five partial cDNAs of auxin efflux carriers by RT-PCR method. In addition, we isolated two full-length cDNAs (CsPIN2, CsPIN3) from a cucumber cDNA library. CsPIN2, AtPIN3, AtPIN4 and AtPIN7 fall within the same clade. CsPIN3, AtPIN1 and CsPIN1 fall within the same clade. CsPIN5, CsPIN6 and AtPIN2 fall within the same clade. Our phylogenetic analysis of PIN in cucumber and Arabidopsis indicates that cucumber may diversify CsPIN protein compared with AtPIN protein.
