مستخلص: Certified dietary managers (CDMs) lead their food services team by ensuring food quality, safety, and palatability while applying nutrition principles to food purchasing, storage, preparation, and service. Despite labor shortages and forecasted growth in both healthcare and food services management jobs, approximately 30% of credentialing exam candidates forego their exam within the first year after completing a didactic career technical education program approved by the Association of Nutrition and Foodservice Professionals. Moreover, very few return to pursue their exam after the first year. This study explored, through the lens of the theory of planned behavior, the perceived obstacles contributing to CDM program graduates' reluctance to sit for the national board certification. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a purposive and convenience sample of eight participants from various regions of the United States to gain insight into internal and external factors contributing to their exam hesitancy. Thematic analysis yielded several themes, including a lack of control over internal and external barriers to taking the exam. Participants reported facing family and work constraints exacerbated by the pandemic and the lack of financial resources to meet exam preparation and registration costs. They expressed feelings of exam-related anxiety, being ill-prepared, unsupported by their programs and employers and discouraged by the observed stressful working conditions of current CDMs. This study helps establish a foundation for remedial action by stakeholders, educational program leaders, and CDM employers in support of certification candidates. Findings raise questions about the prevalence of credentialing exam barriers in other disciplines and pave the way for future investigations about exam hesitancy.

مستخلص: This article develops and tests theory-driven hypotheses on the impact of supplier diversity certification for women-owned businesses. Supplier diversity programs create opportunities for businesses majority-owned, managed, and/or operated by Indigenous Peoples, people with disabilities, veterans, visible minorities, 2SLGBTQI+ people, and women to become suppliers of goods and services, typically to large corporate or government buyers. Drawing on contingency theory and the resource-based view (RBV), supplier size and duration of certification are hypothesized to impact success. Diversity certification is conceptualized as an intangible asset, i.e., as a valuable resource. A survey was developed to collect data on organizational size, duration of certification, business success and other relevant variables, such as motivators for and barriers to certification. While both size and duration appear to facilitate success, there is also evidence that duration mediates the size effect. The discussion includes implications for theory and practice. There is a clear need for future research to explore a possible combination of diversity certification and capability certification, across all communities of diversity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: This paper studies certification design and its implications for information disclosure. Our model features a profit‐maximizing certifier and the seller of a good of unknown quality. We allow for common values as the seller's opportunity cost may depend on the quality of the good. We compare certifier‐optimal with transparency‐maximizing certification design. Certifier‐optimal certification design implements the evidence structure of Dye (1985)—a fraction of sellers acquire information while the remaining sellers are uninformed—and results in partial disclosure to the market. A transparency‐maximizing regulator prefers a less precise signal, which conveys more information to the market through a higher rate of certification and unraveling (Grossman (1981), Milgrom (1981)) at the disclosure stage. مستخلص: Three basic issues of day care licensing are dealt with in this paper. These are: (1) Should day care licensing be statutority separate from other child care licensing programs? (2) Where should day care licensing be administratively located? and (3) How much of the safeguarding and upgrading of service can licensing carry in relation to possibly other regulatory programs that might be implemented? The study shows that the differential attitude towards the function of day care and day care licensing was forcibly brought out in a recent research program. It is concluded that as a cultural difference exists as to the function of day care licensing as compared to 24-hour foster care licensing, there would seem to be much operational valor in achieving separability. With respect to the second issue, currently licensing responsibility is carried out mainly by state or state-local departments of public welfare. It is concluded that the possible assignment of day care licensing to state health departments is preferable if there is any possibility of health departments developing a dynamic division of maternal and child health. With respect to the third question, attention is called to accreditation programs under public or private (voluntary) auspices. The Child Welfare League of America is a good example of how a voluntary accreditation agency can go beyond the public licensing authority. It is concluded that a cooperative program in which the public agency licenceses a center and a private one goes beyond the minimum safeguards would be the best solution. مستخلص: This paper addresses a problem that educators have become painfully aware of: their occupation does not share all of the characteristics and benefits of established professions like law and medicine. Oregon is selected as a case study in the making of a profession because, along with California, it has moved farthest towards a true professionalization of teaching. The Bicentennial Commission of Education for the Profession of Teaching of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education has issued a report, "Educating a Profession," containing a criteria of twelve items listing the characteristics of professions. These twelve items are examined here and compared and contrasted with the Oregon experience. The criteria are divided into two groups: those in which there is no significant distinction between Oregon education and the rest of the country, and those criteria that Oregon has begun to meet in a more clear-cut way than most other states. It is concluded that teaching does not yet satisfy the criteria that other established professions clearly meet; in Oregon, at least, educators have taken essential steps through legislation that can lead to full professional status. مستخلص: The nation is facing a shortage of educators prepared to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse student population. Latinos are the nation's fastest growing population but are underrepresented in higher-skilled occupations in the classroom and overrepresented in supportive roles with lower wages. This shows the need for employers and institutions to create pathways into the field of education as Latinos see the value to educate others and the community. To ensure America's future, institutions and employers in education must both play an active role in preparing, selecting, and sourcing Latino talent for a global economy. To bridge this gap, "Excelencia" has analyzed national datasets to connect employers in education with institutions that are graduating and preparing Latinos for the workforce. This brief identifies the top institutions graduating Latinos (2019-20) from certificates to the doctoral level in education. These top 25 institutions are meeting the nation's economic needs by intentionally serving Latino students and producing Latino talent. This brief also highlights institutions and their intentional efforts to support post-completion success by providing education credentials needed to support the current and future education workforce.

مستخلص: Today's young adults want and need a diverse array of education options, including, but not limited to, two- and four-year degrees to help them connect learning with earning. Young people and employers alike are eager for effective, efficient, work-aligned pathways to employment that enable people not just to say, "I know a lot, and here's the paper to prove it," but instead, "Let me show you what I can do with what I know." We surveyed over a thousand young adults who are not pursuing a four-year degree. Around half of our survey respondents have chosen to pursue nondegree, education-to-career pathways such as apprenticeship, certification, and licensure. The other half of our respondents have chosen not to pursue any postsecondary education. Our goal is to better understand the motivations, circumstances, influencers, priorities, and satisfaction level of today's "non-college youth" to ensure that emerging generations of students have access to accurate information about the many viable pathways that exist and how they might pursue them. مستخلص: With this paper, we deepen and expand upon our body of research into the public awareness and reputation of nondegree pathways, focusing on the beliefs and attitudes of young people, their parents, and their teachers. For those looking to pursue, or encourage someone to pursue, a nondegree pathway today, there are no easy answers. Information about nondegree pathways is hard to come by, and it isn't making its way into schools at a great enough rate to disrupt the damaging "college for all" mentality. Yet, what we observe among those who have chosen the path less traveled hints at a subtle awareness shift taking place. All parties--young people, parents, and educators alike--want more information about nondegree pathways, and are hungry to understand what opportunity exists beyond the degree. And most importantly, those young people who are pursuing or have pursued apprenticeships, boot camps, certifications, micro-credentials, and beyond are generally satisfied with their choices. They are largely employed, and they are appreciative of the opportunity to connect learning to earning in a meaningful way that doesn't come with a burdensome price tag or require them to put life on hold for four years. With this research, we put forth a call for change and a request for students, parents, and educators everywhere to adopt a more open lens on what success looks like. We ask the public to help those young people who are about to transition to adult life to not resort to knee-jerk choices, but instead to ask the question, "What if?" We commit to playing a role in the establishment of a stronger framework of information and quality assurance that makes the choice less daunting and more realistic for millions of young Americans.
