    مستخلص: Purpose: Bus fleet maintenance management plays a critical role in the productivity, quality, and ability to generate value for companies providing public passenger transport services. This work aims to create a solid basis for future research on the subject of bus fleet maintenance and project management. Methodology: This work consists of carrying out a literature review, to explore existing knowledge about bus fleet maintenance and project management. Results: The expected result is that this contribution increase interest in the production of knowledge regarding project management and maintenance management. Which may result in increased maintenance efficiency due to the increase in available knowledge. Originality: At the time of this review, no articles are associated with managing bus fleet maintenance projects. This gap persists in research related to project management and land transport.     مستخلص: The article employs a model of interdependency of institutional choices and seeks to investigate the determinants of the provision and production of bus transportation services. We find that municipal population size and low levels of debt are the main drivers of service provision. The decision to cooperate in the provision of bus services is associated with municipalities that have lower levels of financial autonomy. Lastly, we find that larger municipalities and those not run by center left-wing mayors are more likely to opt for the externalization of bus services, either to municipal corporations or to private providers.     مستخلص: As an innovative public transport, the customized bus has rapidly grown. To improve the efficiency of customized bus and satisfy customers' personal requirement, a mixed-integer programming model is proposed to optimize the stop assignment for customers and route scheduling for buses with walking distance constraints and travel time constraints. As an variants of vehicle routing problem, the formulated model on large-scale instances is intractable to solve for commercial solvers. Therefore, an exact algorithm based on branch and price is developed to solve the model, in which a labeling algorithm is designed for the pricing problems. Numerical experiments and a real-world case in Dalian are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed model. The computational results show that the tailored algorithm can yield an optimal solution within a significantly shorter time than that of CPLEX. Some managerial implications are also obtained based on sensitivity analysis, which may be potentially useful for bus companies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

    مستخلص: Many individuals rely on public transportation to get around on a daily basis. During rush hours, the bus's capacity is exceeded by the number of passengers, which creates a situation where passengers are forced to stand on the bus's stairway, which leads to tripping hazards and deadly incidents. Buses must therefore have a footboard accident prevention system in order to protect the security of the passengers. In this project Step-Lock System in Bus to Avoid Foot boarding was proposed to detect foot boarding and avoid it, by using an Arduino UNO, Force sensor and Infrared sensor. The IR sensor is placed along each staircase on both back and front side of the bus and Force sensor is placed under each step to detect the presence of a person. Whenever a person is detected, a buzzer is set off to alert the passenger, conductor, and driver. If the person remains on the step for more than specified time interval the speed of the bus is reduced. With this project we aim to effectively reduce the footboard travel of the passengers and increase safety in the bus transport system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

    مستخلص: Bus service in emerging countries faces significant challenges such as inferior quality, limited appeal, and declining ridership, which is further aggravated with increased affordability of commuters. The conventional approach of providing a standardized service to all commuters has proven ineffective due to the diverse perception and requirements of commuters. Unlike traditional approaches that categorize commuters solely based on car ownership, the present study employs a comprehensive approach to segment commuters based on their service quality expectations and identifies improvement areas specific to each segment. The methodology uses integrated Importance Performance Analysis-Machine learning (IPA-ML) based framework to identify segments and improvement areas. While demonstrating the methodology in an Indian metro city, two segments, namely 'tolerant users (low quality acceptors)' and 'quality seekers (high quality seekers)', are identified using complete-linkage-hierarchical clustering with Naïve Bayes Machine Learning classifier. Intervention areas specific to these segments are identified using revised-IPA with Kernel Initialization technique giving due considerations to the segment wise factor structure and management schemes. The findings indicated the impact of multiple socio-economic factors on segment formation emphasizing the need for a holistic approach beyond car ownership when segmenting commuters. The significant differences in perceived improvement areas between the two segments highlight their distinct perceptions and expectations, indicating the necessity for segmenting the bus service to cater to their specific needs. While study provides case-specific findings for the improvement of bus service, the methodology and experience give a new direction to develop bus as a sustainable demand management instrument in a broader context • An IPA-Machine Learning framework is presented to segment the commuters based on service quality expectations. • Two distinctly different segment of commuters namely tolerant users and quality seekers are identified. • Intervention areas specific to both segments are identified considering factor structure and management scheme. • Design of bus service with segmentation is recommended for emerging economies.     مستخلص: Using data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) dated from 1991 to 2015, we assess the impact of public bus expansion into villages on income mobility of rural household, particularly, with low income. This paper finds that the income mobility of low-income households is suffered from the expansion of public buses in the rural areas. Due to the 'crowding out' effect, the low-income families are excluded from the non-agricultural employment brought by the public bus expansion, which nevertheless does not improve the agricultural production structure. This can explain why the low-income group has been marginalized during the process of urban-city integration in China. Improvement of the human capital can significantly alleviate the negative impact of public bus expansion on the low-income group in rural areas, while the child-care burden aggravates the issue. These results may also have policy implication for potential solutions to problems such as the 'First Kilometer' to realize common prosperity is not simply about the modernization in the infrastructure but also equalization of opportunities through cultivation of human capital.     مستخلص: Understanding which aspects can have the greatest influence on the performance, comfort and safety of a public transport system can be of great help in improving its operation and promoting more sustainable mobility. To find out more about these aspects, a survey was carried out among more than 180 drivers of urban bus transport systems in seven medium-sized cities in Spain. The drivers' perspective has been insufficiently taken into account in previous research, despite the fact that these workers have a high and direct knowledge of the operation and problems directly affecting the service. The data collected through this survey have been analysed using descriptive statistics and an Ordered Probit model. The results have allowed us to detect specific aspects to improve the performance and comfort of users and drivers such as the correct location and length of bus stops and enforcing regulation to ensure that buses have priority in traffic and that illegal parking does not interfere with their operations. In addition, bus lanes were seen as important by drivers to improve the comfort and safety of the service. Other factors related to safety were generally highly rated and there was little dispersion in the responses about their importance, although aspects such as proper visibility, avoiding illegal parking, and campaigns to encourage bus users to be aware of their surroundings stood out in the answers. Finally, the payment system was highlighted as very relevant to ensure the performance and comfort of users and drivers during the operation at bus stops.     مستخلص: For most ultralong bus lines, low punctuality rates and vehicle bunching are two main challenges. One potential strategy to solve these two problems is to split an ultralong line into two or three shorter lines according to historical passenger flow patterns as well as other presetting objectives and constraints. Thus, in this paper, a multiobjective optimization model is first established in consideration of both passenger flow distribution and coline metro networks. Then, the optimal truncated stop is determined by estimating the model results generated by enumerating each potential bus stop derived from related metro stops. The nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) is applied to solve the model efficiently. A case study conducted on a real bus line associated with metro networks in Beijing, China, demonstrates the efficiency of the optimization strategy adoption in terms of operating cost and passenger travel time, even with a slight increase in passenger cost. Besides, the multivehicle type is also referred in the experiments to verify economic efficiency to reduce operational costs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
