    الوصف: Purpose We aimed at identifying clinical risk factors or early markers of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in people with spinal cord injury (SCI) that would facilitate a timely diagnosis and implementation of preventive/therapeutic strategies. Methods One hundred sixty-eight individuals with chronic (> 1 year) SCI underwent clinical and biochemical evaluations. MetS was diagnosed according to modified criteria of the International Diabetes Federation validated in people with SCI. Wilcoxon rank-sum test and χ 2 test were used to compare variables between groups with and without MetS. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to reveal independent associations with MetS among variables selected by univariate linear regression analyses. Results MetS was diagnosed in 56 of 132 men (42.4%) and 17 of 36 women (47.2%). At univariate regression analyses, putative predictors of MetS were an older age, a higher number of comorbidities, a lower insulin-sensitivity, the presence and intensity of pain, a shorter injury duration, a poorer leisure time physical activity (LTPA) and an incomplete motor injury. At the multiple logistic regression analysis, a significant independent association with MetS only persisted for a poorer LTPA in hours/week (OR: 0.880, 95% CI 0.770, 0.990) and more severe pain symptoms as assessed by the numeral rating scale (OR: 1.353, 95% CI 1.085, 1.793). Conclusion In people with chronic SCI, intense pain symptoms and poor LTPA may indicate a high likelihood of MetS, regardless of age, SCI duration, motor disability degree, insulin-sensitivity and comorbidities.

    الوصف: Patterning, stability, and dispersion of the semiconductor quantum dots (scQDs) are three issues strictly interconnected for successful device manufacturing. Recently, several authors adopted direct optical patterning (DOP) as a step forward in photolithography to position the scQDs in a selected area. However, the chemistry behind the stability, dispersion, and patterning has to be carefully integrated to obtain a functional commercial device. This review describes different chemical strategies suitable to stabilize the scQDs both at a single level and as an ensemble. Special attention is paid to those strategies compatible with direct optical patterning (DOP). With the same purpose, the scQDs’ dispersion in a matrix was described in terms of the scQD surface ligands’ interactions with the matrix itself. The chemical processes behind the DOP are illustrated and discussed for five different approaches, all together considering stability, dispersion, and the patterning itself of the scQDs.

    الوصف: The purpose of this work is to identify the guidelines for the development and diversification of the cultural touristic offer achievable at the Reale Osservatorio Vesuviano (ROV). Founded in 1841, it is the oldest volcano observatory in the world and it has always had the vocation for scientific-naturalistic and formative tourism. The present study investigates the connections between the sociology of tourism and the ROV’s sustainability and competitiveness as a tourist destination. Here it is performed a study of the tourist flow, based on the sociology of tourism and on the correct processing of data sets, distinguishing the ''statistical information on tourism" from "tourism statistics", as such a study is the basis of a proper market strategy in different sectors. Tourism remains, in fact, an important phenomenon in world economy: despite the economic crisis of recent years, international tourist arrivals show a positive development of the trend in all the major sub-areas into which the large international areas are traditionally divided. The principles for a future marketing plan were outlined after collecting all the relevant information. The plan was designed to enhance the overall touristic offer of the ROV, never ceasing to consider the integration of natural-scientific aspects and cultural events to be offered within the observatory itself. ; El objetivo de este trabajo es identificar las pautas para el desarrollo y diversificación de la oferta de turismo cultural realizable en el Reale Osservatorio Vesuviano (ROV).     الوصف: Direct laser patterning is a potential and powerful technique to localize nanomaterials within a host matrix. The main goal of this study is to demonstrate that by tuning some parameters of a laser source, like power and laser pulse frequency, it is possible to modify and tune the optical properties of the generated quantum dots (QDs) within a host matrix of a specific chemical composition. The study is realized by using cadmium telluride (CdTe) QD precursors, embedded in polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) host matrix, as starting materials. The patterning of the CdTe QDs is carried out by using a UV nanosecond laser source at 355. Fluorescence microscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy, associated with transmission electron microscopy, indicate that it is possible to obtain desired patterns of QDs emitting from green to red of the visible spectrum, due to the formed CdTe QDs. Preliminary highlights of the CdTe QDs’ formation mechanism are given in terms of laser power and laser pulse frequency (repetition rate).

    الوصف: This paper focuses on a preliminary study based on a two-steps approach to produce complex core/multiple shell architectures, such as "dots-in-rods"(DRs), to be exploited as color down-conversion filters for display manufacturing. Core/shell CdSe/CdS DRs are prepared by using a conventional fast hot injection reaction method to grow CdS layers onto CdSe QDs cores. Then, the CdSe/CdS DRs are engineered by growing an additional CdS shell coated by oleate (OA) molecules, thus producing CdSe/CdS@CdS/OA DRs. This further hybrid shell is synthesized by means of a seeded-growth approach, consisting of the controlled injection of TOP-S and cadmium oleate (Cd(OA)2) as sulfur and cadmium precursors, respectively. As assessed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-Vis absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopies analyses, the feasibility to control the amount of precursors allows to modulate the thickness of the further hybrid shells and therefore the morphological and optical properties of the final heterostructures. The introduction of further shells grafted by specific organic ligand improves the solubility in polymeric matrices. This condition is crucial to produce hybrid nanocomposite films that can be integrated in display manufacturing applications. Moreover, the capability of the final CdSe/CdS@CdS/OA nanostructures to convert blue light in red wavelengths with a remarkable photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQY) makes the produced materials the ideal candidates for a variety of optoelectronic applications, particularly for the fabrication of color down-conversion filters.

    الوصف: Many displays involve the use of color conversion layers. QDs are attractive candidates as color converters because of their easy processability, tuneable optical properties, high photo-luminescence quantum yield, and good stability. Here, we show that emissive QDs with narrow emission range can be made in-situ in a polymer matrix, with properties useful for color conversion. This was achieved by blending the blue-emitting pyridine based polymer with a cadmium selenide precursor and baking their films at different temperatures. To achieve efficient color conversion, blend ratio and baking temperature/time were varied. We found that thermal decomposition of the precursor leads to highly emissive QDs whose final size and emission can be controlled using baking temperature/time. The formation of the QDs inside the polymer matrix was confirmed through morphological studies using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Hence, our approach provides a cost-effective route to making highly emissive color converters for multi-color displays.

    الوصف: This study focuses on the investigation of a CdTe quantum dots (QDs) formation from a cadmium-carboxylate precursor, such as cadmium isostearate (Cd(ISA)2), to produce CdTe QDs with tunable photoluminescent (PL) properties. The CdTe QDs are obtained by the thermal decomposition of precursors directly in the polymer matrix (in situ method) or in solution and then encapsulated in the polymer matrix (ex situ method). In both approaches, the time course of the CdTe QDs formation is followed by means of optical absorption and PL spectroscopies focusing on viable emission in the spectral interval between 520 and 630 nm. In the polymeric matrix, the QDs formation is slower than in solution and the PL bands have a higher full width at half maximum (FWHM). These results can be explained on the basis of the limited mobility of atoms and QDs in a solid matrix with respect to the solution, inducing an inhomogeneous growth and the presence of surface defects. These achievements open the way to the exploitation of Cd(ISA)2 as suitable precursor for direct laser patterning (DPL) for the manufacturing of optoelectronic devices.

    الوصف: This study proposes a predictive approach to estimate the duration of domestic tourists' stays in Italy, utilizing microdata from the 2019 Travel and Holiday Survey provided by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT). The main objective is to develop a predictive model using neural networks and deep learning methodology, leveraging the most relevant predictive variables identified in the scientific literature. Deep learning methodology offers significant advantages in detecting and interpreting complex patterns in data, overcoming the limitations of traditional models. The aim is to achieve an accurate and reliable predictive model, providing valuable insights for the tourism sector and tourism development policies. This study contributes to the understanding and prediction of the duration of domestic tourists' stays in Italy, fully exploiting the benefits of deep learning methodology. The obtained results will have a significant impact on the tourism sector, enabling the optimization of hospitality and tourism promotion strategies in the country. By combining the microdata provided by ISTAT with the deep learning approach, complex relationships between the predictive variables and the duration of the tourist stay can be identified providing a robust foundation for informed decisions in the field of tourism.

    الوصف: The synthesis of colloidal photo-luminescent semiconductor quantum dots (QDs), belonging to II-VI groups, even from single source precursors is presented. Since three decades their synthesis has been pursued implementing new and easier synthetic conditions that standardize their production. In this work is reported the production of luminescent of CdS QDs in a polymeric film induced by laser processing (www.miledi-h2020.eu/). A film of PMMA doped with two types of precursors (cadmium xanthates) is irradiated with an UV laser source with different energy doses. The structured film will then be observed with confocal fluorescent microscope. The interesting results shows that the two different xanthates display a different behavior under the laser source even if their absorption spectrum is similar. The second interesting result is that the effect of the laser is the production luminescent pattern only for certain fluences and that the same film treated with the temperature did not show any luminescence.
