مستخلص: Purpose: To investigate factors that obstruct and facilitate the use of the foster parent and special adoption systems (i.e., foster systems) by cancer survivors, and examine how to effectively provide information. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study that compared the results of a questionnaire survey of foster parents and adoptive parents (i.e., foster parents) who were and were not cancer survivors belonging to foster parent associations in 33 locations in Japan. This study was supported by a 2022 Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (Grant No. 20EA1004). Results: "Lack of information," an obstructive factor and "Sympathetic understanding and cooperation from my partner and family," a facilitative factor were the highest score in both groups. Significant differences between the two groups were found in "Support from government agencies and others for foster parents," a facilitative factor, which was lower in the cancer survivors' group. There were no other significant differences between both the groups. Conclusion: This study found that when considering the use of the foster systems, a lack of information was the biggest obstructive factor and family understanding was the most helpful for both cancer survivors and noncancer groups. It was thought that stronger government support for cancer survivors might encourage cancer survivors to consider becoming foster parents. It would be effective for cancer treatment facilities, reproductive medical facilities, the government, and foster parent associations to work together to provide information carefully to cancer survivors. مستخلص: This article takes as its departure a critique of the 'adoption fallacy' underlying the US Supreme Court decision Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization to argue that the Dobbs decision incentivizes a reconsideration of social work practice as a site for advancing reproductive justice. To do this, however, social work must strive to decolonize the profession by critically reflecting on its role in reproductive policy and politics, particularly its complicity in abortion and adoption decisions that may have limited—and continue to limit—reproductive justice. Only then can social work effectively counter the adoption fallacy and advocate more broadly for reproductive justice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: This article explores mental health struggles experienced by international adoptees. A series of 26 qualitative retrospective interviews with international adoptees in Norway, aged 21–34 at the time of interview, shows how a considerable number of these adoptees experienced profound mental health issues, particularly depressive symptoms. The findings suggest that struggles relating to mental health are strongly associated with the challenge of constructing a sense of identity, the lack of a sense of belonging, and grieving for adoption-related losses. The adoptees with these struggles also tended to lack narrative agency—the ability and opportunity to change and influence one's own life course. This research has implications for policy and practice in the sense that adoptees' self-reports of mental health struggles, and their link to adoption-specific issues of identity and belonging, demonstrate the need for post-adoption services tailored to supporting adoptees in the construction of a secure sense of identity and belonging. Post-adoption support can help to reduce the risk of rumination over adoption-related questions in solitude and, as such, contribute to protecting the mental health of adoptees. مستخلص: For decades, transnational adoption has been applied as a valuable measure for children in need of a family home, and for families to fulfill their child wish. The Hague Adoption convention (1993) was established to legally safeguard these processes. However, over the years, denouncements of illegal adoptions and malpractices arose. Notwithstanding, a lack of research giving overview of these malpractices and the consequences thereof remains. This contribution explores the experiences of adoptees in Flanders (Belgium) who experienced malpractices before, during and after their transnational adoption procedure. The research questions addressed are: "What malpractices do adoptees encounter?", "How do adoptees experience malpractices in their adoption procedure?", and "What needs do adoptees have?". A self-assessment questionnaire, holding into account respondents' own judgment, perception, experiences, and interpretation, was completed by 64 adoptees, and analyzed using both SPSS statistical software and Microsoft Excel. Furthermore, in-depth interviews with a heterogeneous group of 12 adoptees were conducted and thematically analyzed. Our findings contribute to descriptions of occurring malpractices, and finetune existing literature concerning the psychosocial impact of malpractices according to adoptees themselves. Findings illustrate intertwined consequences of more general, trauma related, identity development, and relationship issues. Although occurred malpractices cannot be undone, the adoptees having experienced malpractices highlight their needs and further necessary attention for the prevention of malpractices. Adequate attention and support for transnational adoption and those involved is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: The few studies that have focused on studying sibling relationships have identified dynamics between siblings as an important aspect for adoptees, due to its formative influences. This research explored lived experiences of adopted young adults regarding their origins when they have biological and non- biological adopted siblings. Seven adoptees took part in semi-structured interviews, analyzed following Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Results showed a positive perception of the presence of a sibling who shares the experience of adoption and origins in the adoptive family. However, the influence of siblings seemed to hinder some aspects of one's relationships with their own origins. These findings indicate that adoptive parents and professionals should foster healthy and warm relationships between siblings from an early age, regardless of the type of siblings. مصطلحات جغرافية: TENNESSEE

مستخلص: This study evaluated effectiveness of the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) with adoptive families who received post adoption services in Tennessee. Researchers obtained a sample of 552 families who received post adoption services in the U.S. state of Tennessee. Most families (77%) had adopted children through public child welfare services. A quasi-experimental design examined wellbeing outcomes for an NMT group (n = 319) versus a services-as-usual (SAU) group (n = 233) in intent-to-treat analyses. Then, the SAU group was contrasted to an NMT subgroup that had high adherence to the NMT model (n = 109) in an analysis of treatment-on-the-treated. Intent-to-treat models indicated no differences on outcomes between the NMT and SAU groups. However, the results of treatment-on-the-treated analyses showed slightly greater reduction on the Behavior Problems Index over time for the NMT with high adherence group as compared to SAU. Adoptive families may face challenges that could be addressed through developmentally sensitive, trauma-informed services, such as NMT. The results of this study suggest that the NMT might benefit adoptive families if greater attention is paid to implementation adherence, or fidelity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: Single parent adoption (SPA) is a relatively new construct worldwide and in India. The Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, has laid down criteria for adoption in general and SPA in particular, in conjunction with the Juvenile Justice Act (Care and Protection of Children), 2015. There is scant literature on this topic of SPA, more so in India, that looks into the various psychological nuances of SPA from a mental health professional's (MHP) perspective. This review paper aims to assess SPA from the perspective of a MHP that will focus on its various legal nuances as well as the psychological connotations attached to it. For this, a search strategy was employed that included a thorough literature search from two databases (PubMed and Google Scholar) with relevant keywords related to the topic. The various legal issues pertaining to SPA in the current scenario, the psychological issues and challenges faced by single parents, the behavioral outcomes of adoptees who are adopted by single parents, and ways to deal with the various obstacles of SPA are discussed. مستخلص: There are several motives underlying the process of deciding to become an adoptive family. However, research exploring this issue is scarce and essentially focused on infertility as the main motivation. The present mixed‐method study aims to fill in this gap by exploring, retrospectively, the motives to adopt of 126 Portuguese adoptive parents. The Parents' Interview on the Adoption Process was used to identify the motives to adopt and describe the adoption decision‐making process. Seven main motives (biological issues, filling in a void/loneliness, adoption as a life project, expanding the family, philanthropy, contact with the child protection system and parenthood) were identified. These motives can be centred on the self, the child or both simultaneously and are characterized by dynamism, permeability and interconnection. Findings allowed for establishing conceptual considerations on motivations to adopt and recommendations for adoption practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: This study explores issues on post-adoption services in intercountry adoptions based on the perspectives of adoption professionals from Taiwan and Australia. Findings revealed that both birth and adoptive families identify service needs for material and emotional support and connection after the adoption process is finalized. However, the current lack of government funding for post-adoption services result in gaps in service delivery. Adoption agencies experience challenges in funding and balancing the interests of the child and the two families. Implications for practice and policy are discussed to enhance the quality of post-adoption services and improve the well-being of the adoption triad. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

مستخلص: To successfully use information and communication technologies (ICT) for aging processes, older adults need to have a variety of skills. This study examined whether volunteering is a critical resource for older adults in dealing with the motives for internet use, higher internet self-efficacy, and lower obsolescence. For this purpose, a distinction was made between older adults who perform voluntary work in the ICT field, voluntary work outside the ICT field, and older non-volunteers. In the study, 331 older adults (mean, 70 years; range, 60–90 years; 39% female) participated in an online questionnaire and were subsequently divided into three groups (ICT volunteers, non-ICT volunteers, and non-volunteers) based on the replies. As expected, ICT volunteers were characterized by more motives for using the internet, higher internet self-efficacy, and lower perceived obsolescence, and significant variance in the components of these constructs were explained by volunteer status. Interactions indicated a buffer effect, according to which ICT volunteering compensates for higher age and educational disadvantages in the context of internet self-efficacy. References to social support, age and cohort effects, and training programs are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
