The article investigates the relation of high-dose (pulse) corticosteroid therapy to the development of atrial fibrillation (AF) in the U.S. It performs a nested case-control study within the Rotterdam Study, a population-based cohort study among a number of older people to test the hypothesis that corticosteroid use increases the risk of new-onset AF. Also discussed is the comparison of the proportion of cases and controls that received a corticosteroid prescription. |
