مستخلص: The article presents a study examining the arguments raised by nineteenth-century Italian psychiatrists Carlo Livi and Andrea Verga pertaining to the death penalty. Reportedly, capital punishment has been the subject of debate in Italy from 1861 until 1888, while the proposal for the abolition of this punishment has been established in Tuscany in 1786. Livi sets forth his scientific case for the abolition in two speeches while Verga wrote a commentary in favor of the Italian Penal Code.
