مستخلص: Background: Racial and ethnic minorities are underrepresented in the nutrition/ dietetics (ND) profession. The Eye To The Future (ETTF) practicum is a paid practicum for minority first-time-in-college (FTIC) students and aims to increase diversity of the ND workforce. This study explores whether the ETTF practicum improved nutrition and health career readiness. Methods: FTIC students from a community college and two urban universities were recruited for the 15-week paid ETTF practicum, which included 1) didactic training in community nutrition programming, 2) delivering and evaluating a 6-week nutrition summer camp for minority youth, and 3) career readiness training (i.e., structured mentoring from faculty and community nutrition professionals, and campus career center workshops). Career readiness was assessed with a 7-item self-report survey (Cronbach's alphas =,82-.87) at baseline and post-practicum and with qualitative exit interviews. A paired-samples t-test was conducted to compare scores pre and post practicum. Interviews were recorded and coded for major themes. Results: The sample included 12 FTIC students (M age =23.9, SD=6.9), who were first or 2nd generation immigrants (75%) with household incomes <$40K (60%). Career readiness increased from baseline (M = 3.33, SD = 0.59) to post-practicum (M = 4.37, SD = 0.52) [t(9) = 4.05, p = .003], Students reported the the most beneficial program elements included experiential learning activities and external mentors. Conclusions: The experiential learning program described in this presentation (i.e., ETTF practicum) may serve as a model for educators to encourage minority and underrepresented students to enter the ND profession.
