The article reports on The International Museum of Surgical Science, in Chicago (Ill. ). The museum is housed in a mansion on Lake Michigan, and features a history of surgery. A surgery of surgical treatments through the ages is presented, including caesarean section, trepanning and scoliosis. The museum is currently presenting an exhibit on pain, entitled "The Universal Condition: Enduring and Alleviating Pain. " The museum offers an oasis in the bitter Chicago weather and the pleasure of observing the arcana of the surgical profession at leisure. |
