مستخلص: This article presents a study which investigated the impact of international economic sanctions on the economic situation and reform in Botswana. Botswana is land-locked and completely depends on South Africa's transport system for both its imports and exports of goods and resources, making it virtually impossible for the government to establish trade with other countries in the region without the aid of South Africa. The problem is compounded by the fact that labor migration appears to be so important to the country's economy that it may cease to function if the South African government should send the migrant workers back across the border, as it threatened to do it, large-scale sanctions were employed. As the impact of international sanctions begin to permeate and push Pretoria toward reform, the repercussions may either hasten Botswana's liberation from total dependency on a potentially hostile super-power neighbor or its economic collapse. During my visit to Botswana, I engaged in extensive dialogue with government officials, university faculty and staff members and other citizens about their views and observations regarding the economic and political situation in Botswana, which is discussed herein.
