مستخلص: The article discusses the importance of supercomputers for science and industry. A supercomputer is a computer which performs at a speed which is much more than that of other computers. Seymour Cray, former chief designer at Control Data Corp. (CDC), is known as the father of supercomputers. The TOP500 supercomputer project was launched at the University of Mannheim, Germany, in 1993; and the project has been successfully tracking and evaluating the supercomputer market for 20 years. Supercomputer simulations have various application areas, including quantum physics, weather forecasting, climate research, molecular modeling, physical simulations, and data mining.
