The aricle deals with the genetic aspects of the yeast translation termination factor Sup35 and its self-perpetuating prion form PS+. Topics include the loss of MOT3+ transcription factor, the role of prions in modulating natural genetic diversity, the response of prions to environmental stress and the role of prion-mediated aggregation in cellular activity of proteins. The effects of temperature, humidity and nutrient on microbes are described. |
