الوصف: Introduction. The online communication is becoming a new challenge in current societies, it has been noticed that social media platforms have become well-accepted, preferred and made communication among adolescence much easier. Most common issues observed in this field are cyber bullying, internet risks, safety and addiction to computer games, unfortunatelly the topic itself is quite new and not yet thoroughly analysed by the scientific community, thus the theme of internet addiction is intriguing. In literature it can be found that Internet addiction is defined as an individual’s inability to control his or her use of the Internet, taht eventually can cause psychological, social, school and/or work difficulties in a person’s life. It is also commonly associated with sociodemographic, Internet use and psychosocial factors, as well as comorbid symptoms and disorder in adolescents and adults. There have been noticed different Internet communication behaviors related to gender. Study has showed that risky behavior, sexual aspect of online communication has been mostly observed by girls and also found that a lot of unwelcome solicitations of personal or private information online was more noticed in girls. Aim. The aim of the study was to investigate addiction to online communication among 11–15 year old school children in Lithuania in terms of gender differences. Methods. The study was conducted as a pilot project for oncoming 2018 Health Behavior in School-aged Children (HBSC) study in Lithuania. The data were collected in May 2017 at five secondary schools in Lithuania. The schools were randomly selected from national schools list that included institutions with different number of student and from various regions of country.
