الوصف: Tensile tests of four specimens cut from a piece of hull plate recovered from USS Monitor reveal strength comparable to modern wrought iron except in the case of one specimen which suffered from internal corrosion. Impact tests and subsequent scanning electron fractography indicate that no ductile-to-brittle transition occurs until the temperature has been lowered to well below the temperature of the seawater at the site of the wreck.
