| الوصف: | In this work a study was conducted to evaluate the chronic inflammatory process using Casearia sylvestris extract: a species of plant popularly known for its anti-inflammatory effect. The effectiveness of this plant was evaluated into a chronic inflammation process induced by a synthetic matrix implanted in mices. It has been analysed by the inflammatory component, the angiogenic component and the tissue repair phase. For this purpose, 61 male mices C57∕B1∕6, 8 weeks old were divided into 5 groups: (1) control (saline), (2) control (DMSO1%), (3) treated with 10ng of Casearia sylvestris essential oil, (4) treated with 100ng of this oil and (5) treated with 1000ng from the same oil. The animals underwent to a chronic inflammatory response induced by synthetic sponge and treated everyday with these dosages per 9 days. The results have shown that the inflammatory component, represented by the evaluation of myeloperoxidase (MPO) and N-acetyl-β-D-glicosaminidase (NAG) activity and number of mast cells had no significant difference between the three doses evaluated compared to the control group. Furthermore, the angiogenic component also showed no statistic difference in the levels of hemoglobin, not even on vessels quantification. About the tissue repair, there were no changes in soluble collagen content also not for also quantification of collagen type I and III deposition. According to the results, the chronic inflammation treated with Casearia sylvestris essential oil had no effect on inflammatory process. The experiments that analyzed the effect of Casearia sylvestris revealed that although the anti-inflammatory action of Casearia sylvestris be widespread and evidenced by popular medicine, the doses used in this work via local injection under the chronic inflammation model induced by synthetic implant, showed no significant changes of the components evaluated in any of the treatments compared with the saline control group, and therefore exhibited no anti-inflammatory effects in chronic inflammation.
