مستخلص: The article focuses on a study which assessed the association between the initiation of anti-tumor necrosis factor α (anti-TNFα) therapy and the risk of serious bacterial infections in routine care. The study used a total of 15,297 rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients in whom a disease modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) was initiated between January 1, 1995 to December 31, 2003. Results indicated that the incidence of serious bacterial infections has an average of 2.2 per 100 patient-years in this population.
