The author comments on a report by M. Bongiovanni et al on data from a retrospective study in four Italian diabetes pregnancy centers of 101 women with type 1 diabetes mellitus who were followed throughout pregnancy with weekly or bi-weekly assessments of insulin use and carbohydrate-to-insulin (CHO/I) ratios. Bongiovanni contributed evidence to the growing body of literature describing the necessary increases in insulin and suggests that formulas may help guide therapy for prandial bolusing. |
