مستخلص: Sense of coherence (SOC) is a relevant contributor and predictor of the individuals' mental and physical health. There are a number of studies about SOC, but only two validation articles of the sense of coherence scale (SOCS) were found on adolescents and none on children. The aim of this research was to validate the SOC scale in youth under 18. We hypothesized that younger children and children without psychiatric problems will have higher SOC than older ones, and children with psychiatric symptoms. We also wanted to examine the factor structure of both the 13 and the 29 item versions of the scale to study which is more valid in child and adolescent population. 199 children and 198 adolescents were included in the study; the mean age was 14.3 (SD 2.1) years. The sample included average youth from schools and youth under psychiatric treatment. Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and Inventory of Life Quality (ILK) were used for validation of the SOCS. SOCS-13 was applied to compare SOC of children and adolescents. Children had higher SOC than adolescents in both samples. Males had higher SOC than females in children but not in adolescents. Psychiatric and behavioral symptoms were associated with a lower SOC regardless

مستخلص: Currently, no culturally and linguistically adapted autism screening tools are available in South Africa. The aim was to determine the reliability and concurrent validity of the adapted English and Northern Sotho-translated Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers--Revised with Follow-up (M-CHAT-R/F). Reliability was confirmed with near-perfect agreement (p < 0.001) between the checklists in a sample of 158 Northern Sotho/English bilingual mothers of children with a low risk for autism. Concurrent validity between the Northern Sotho M-CHAT-R/F and the communication and socialization sub-domains of the Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scales--3rd Edition was established with significant association at the 5% level. A third (33.5%) of the children showed a developmental delay. The checklists are valid and reliable, and may improve early identification that will render better long-term outcomes for children with autism in South Africa. Autism screening should be combined with developmental assessment. The study contributes to an emerging body of research on the development of contextually appropriate screening measures.

معرفات التقييم و الدراسة: Childhood Autism Rating Scale

مستخلص: This study aims to investigate the validation of the Rapid Interactive Screening Test for Autism in Toddlers (RITA-T) in Turkish toddlers between 18 and 36 months of age. Children aged 18-36 months were referred to the department of child psychiatry for concerns of autism spectrum disorder, language disorder, developmental delay, and typically developing children were enrolled. A total of 81 toddlers participating in the study received clinical interviews according to the "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" (5th ed.) and the Childhood Autism Rating Scale. They received the translated RIT-T from reliably trained and blinded providers. Parents completed the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers form. A cut-off score was calculated based on the sensitivity, specificity, positive, and negative predictive values of the RITA-T total score that best differentiates autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. For all participants, the RITA-T total score correlated with the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (r = 0.715) and the Childhood Autism Rating Scale total score (r = 0.825). Using a cut-off score of [greater than or equal to]17, the RITA-T had a sensitivity of 0.90 and a specificity of 0.927 for identifying autism spectrum disorder risk. The area under the curve was 0.977. Our findings demonstrate that the RITA-T is effective in Turkish toddlers for the early identification of autism spectrum disorder, early intervention settings, and allowing access to treatment.

مستخلص: Depression is a latent characteristic that is measured through self-reported or clinician-mediated instruments such as scales and inventories. The precision of depression estimates largely depends on the validity of the items used and on the truthfulness of people responding to these items. The existing methodology in instrumentation based on a factor-analytic approach has limited applicability, especially in the detection of sources of measurement error in itemand person-level analyses. While there are probabilistic approaches such as the use of Item Response Theory and the Rasch model in validating instruments, there are no definite guidelines on the sequence of steps to follow. This study explored the suitability of the Rasch model in assessing and streamlining the University Student Depression Inventory (USDI) using a sequential strategy based on the item response model assumptions, which involves fitting the data to the model through the elimination of misfits, analyzing retained items, and constructing measures. The strategy was applied to two sets of survey data collected from the same population of college students enrolled in a Philippine university but in different semesters. Results showed that the Rasch procedure was able to detect misfit items and persons, which guided decisions regarding the removal of problematic items and persons while preserving the reliability of the original scale. The methodology used was found to be replicable, as the analyses for the two datasets yielded comparable results in terms of number of items retained, item estimates and severity ordering, and distribution of student depression measures.

مستخلص: Background: Screening is the first important step in the diagnostic process. There is strong evidence that early diagnosis and management of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can lead to a better prognosis. The purpose of this study was to develop an Arabic version of the Chinese Checklist for Autism in Toddlers-23 (CHAT-23) to distinguish children with ASD in the Egyptian community. Methods: The Arabic CHAT-23 checklist was applied to 100 Egyptian children with mental age 18-24 months including 30 autistic and 70 typically-developing children. Results and conclusion: Arabic CHAT-23 checklist is a valid and reliable tool for early identification of ASD in Egyptian children with high sensitivity (93.3%) and specificity (97%). Children failing any 15 of all 23 questions of the parental questionnaire should be observed with observational items. Failing any 3 of the 4 observational items would suggest ASD.

مستخلص: Given the dearth of technically adequate universal screening tools in the Greek language, the current study sought to examine the psychometric properties of a 67-item universal screener (i.e. Integrated Teacher Rating Form; ITRF), that was originally developed in American English and then translated and implemented in Greek primary schools. The ITRF, which was designed to identify students at risk and facilitate the planning of interventions targeting classroom behaviors that interfere with academic and social functioning, incorporates four constructs (i.e. Disorganized/Academic Performance Problems, Disruptive behavior, Anxious/Depressed behavior, Socially Withdrawn behavior). To test the classification accuracy of the ITRF, a multi-gated screening procedure was followed, consisting of a brief 4-item screening measure that Greek teachers completed for all students in classroom, followed by completion of the ITRF for those students whose first-gate ratings indicated concern. Results suggested that teachers reported the highest level of concern for students' academic performance problems, followed by oppositional/disruptive behaviors, socially withdrawn behaviors, and anxious/depressed behaviors. Classification accuracy was found to be excellent for the Disorganized/Academic Productivity Problems Gate 1 measure, good for the Disruptive/Oppositional measure, fair for the Socially Withdrawn measure and poor for the Anxious/Depressed measure.

مستخلص: Few instruments screen for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) among kindergarteners and older children. The Autism Screen for Kids and Youth (ASKY) is a 30-item parental questionnaire for 4- to 18-year-old children and adolescents available in Arabic, English, and Hebrew. We examined the sensitivity, specificity, and temporal stability of the Hebrew ASKY's categorizations ("probable ASD" versus "probable non-ASD") of 167 autistic and non-autistic 4- to 18-year olds. Algorithm-based categorization following "The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders: Fifth Edition" (DSM-5) rules demonstrated 91.8% sensitivity, 71.7% specificity, and excellent test--retest reliability ([kappa] = 0.783, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.583-0.983, p < 0.001). Total score-based categorization using a cutoff of 9 demonstrated high receiver operating characteristics area under the curve (AUC = 0.874) and high sensitivity (93.4%), specificity (78.3%), internal consistency (Cronbach's [alpha] = 0.954), and test-retest reliability ([kappa][subscript scores] = 0.674, [kappa][subscript instrument] = 0.783). Discussing both categorization approaches, we show that the ASKY is a promising instrument for ASD screening of older children.

مستخلص: The Parents' Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS), PEDS: Developmental Milestones (PEDS: DM) and PEDS tools (i.e., the PEDS and PEDS:DM combined for use) are parent-reported screening tools frequently used to identify young children requiring early intervention. An ideal screening tool for all contexts would be brief, inexpensive with appropriate test items and good psychometric properties. A scoping review was conducted to review studies that used the PEDS, PEDS:DM, and PEDS tools to screen for the need for further referrals and evaluation through parent report. Thirty articles, ranging from 2003 to 2020, conducted in high-income countries (HICs) and lower-middle income countries (LMICs), were included from the 1,468 records identified. Studies conducted in HICs (n = 19) included screening of special population groups and comparing validated tools. LMIC studies (n = 11) focused on translations, combination of the PEDS tools, validations of tools, and use of an app-based tool (mHealth). High referral rates were obtained with PEDS (23-41%) and PEDS:DM (12-54%) in LMICs where at-risk populations are more prevalent and cultural differences may affect tool validity. A global dearth of research on PEDS:DM and PEDS tools exist; the review highlights factors that influence the validity and impact widespread use of the screening measures, especially in diverse populations and LMICs.

مستخلص: The purpose of the study was two-fold: The first purpose of the research was to conduct the "adaptation study of Brigance K & 1 screen II to Turkish," while the second was to "investigate the effect of the enrichment program applied to gifted children and their classmates in the 1st grade of primary education on their performance in multiple intelligence fields". The research was conducted in the screening model and experimental design. The study group consisted of 477 primary schools first grade students (6 years old). Data collection tools are as follows, Brigance K & 1 Screen II scale, Goodenough-Harris draw-a-person test, Teele Multiple Intelligence Preference Inventory (TIMI), Enrichment Program Pre-test -Post-test, and "Project Evaluation Criteria List." After the screening process, a class-wide enrichment program based on multiple intelligence was applied to gifted and talented children and their classmates. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze the data at hand. The findings of the study revealed that Brigance K & 1 Screen II scale was effective in determining gifted children attending the first grade of primary school with a rough evaluation. The enrichment program results were different from the existing school program in favor of enrichment. The class-wide enrichment program has improved all children, with a more potential for gifted children. As a part of the program, a total of 163 students were given project assignments. At the end of the evaluation, it was determined that the students improved in multiple intelligence areas.

معرفات التقييم و الدراسة: Beck Depression Inventory

مستخلص: The 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) is designed to detect a diagnosable psychiatric disorder and has demonstrated positive psychometric properties in adult populations. Despite these findings, the psychometric properties of the GHQ-12 have hardly been examined with regard to early childhood teachers. This study purposed to examine the factor structure of the GHQ-12 and to assess its psychometric properties vis-à-vis a sample of Korean early childhood teachers. An aggregate of 252 participants completed the Korean version of the GHQ-12 in tandem with other psychiatric measures, including the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). The resulting data were subjected to confirmatory factor analyses to compare the goodness-of-fit of the previously proposed models of the GHQ-12. The three-factor model comprising anhedonia/sleep disturbance, social performance and loss of confidence was found by the goodness-of-fit indices to excellently fit our study sample. The average variance extracted and all factor loadings exceeded the recommended threshold of 0.50; hence, convergent validity was established. The criterion posited by Fornell and Larcker verified the discriminant validity. The instrument evidenced superior reliability evinced by its adequate internal consistency and composite reliability. This evidence allows the assertion that the GHQ-12 may be deployed as a screening tool for the evaluation of general symptoms of psychiatric disorders in Korean early childhood teachers.
