الوصف: The present study was aimed to investigate the bioaccumulation and biosedimentation factors of some heavy metals in Tilapia zillii inhabiting Lake Qarun, Egypt during the year, 2015- 2016. Water, sediments and fish samples were collected during the period of study. The present study exhibited that, the higher levels of bioaccumulation and biosedimentation factors were recorded in liver samples except for Mn; gills showed their high accumulation while the lower levels of all studied metals were observed in muscle samples. The results indicated the differences of some heavy metals accumulation in different tissues of fish with an increasing rate in the liver during winter and spring except for Zn that attained the higher level in the liver during autumn for bioaccumulation factor and spring for biosedimentation one. The liver of T. zillii accumulated higher levels of Cd, Cu, Fe and Zn than other organs. The results showed that the bioaccumulation factor of Cd, Fe and Mn in fish organs was greater than biosedimentation factor, and this implies that the fish bioaccumulated these metals from the water. While, biosedimentation factor of copper and zinc in the fishes was higher than bioaccumulation one, and this refers to the fact that the fishes bioaccumulated these metals from the sediment. Histopathologically results showed congestion in the interstitial blood vessel and multifocal necrotic areas in renal tubules. While, vacuolated hepatocytes, dilated central vein, compressed blood sinusoids, and congestion were seen in fish liver. Furthermore, intermuscular edematous areas between the muscle bundles were obvious. The increased rate of bioaccumulation, biosedimentation factors, and histopathological changes in the target organs indicated the high risk to fish health and human consumption. Thus, the current study showed that precautionary measures should be taken to prevent heavy metal pollution in the future.

الوصف: Untreated or poorly treated industrial wastes, heavy metals and other pollutants are released into the Nile Delta canals network; causes accumulation of various heavy metals in the fish from sediments, water and food. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of heavy metals on the ovary of Tilapia zillii in some River Nile canals, at Nile Delta, Egypt. A total of 502 specimens of adult Tilapia zillii were monthly collected from Zifta, Shubra Malakan and El-Nasria stations at El-Gharbia Governorate, during the period from December, 2017 to November, 2018. Heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Ni, and Cd) were measured in the ovary of the fish at three stations. Histopathological changes in the ovary were photographed and described. Results showed that the highest annual averages value of heavy metals concentrations in the ovary of T. zillii were recorded at El-Nasria station, followed by Shubra Malakan station and reached to its lowest value at Zifta station. The mature oocytes in the ovaries of Tilapia zillii had the highest value (74.43%) at Zifta, medium value (49.87%) in the ovaries fish at Shubra Malakan and lowest value (15.07%) in the ovaries of fish at El-Nasria. The percentage of mature oocytes decreases and atresia increases with increase heavy metals concentrations. Therefore, stopping of maturation was noticed in some ovaries of fish collected from El-Nasria station (with the highest heavy metals concentrations). The histopathological features in the ovaries of T. zillii, collected from Shubra Malakan and El-Nasria stations showed degenerative and necrotic changes in the oocytes and proliferative changes in most oocyte’s granulosa. The ovarian cells of T. zillii converted to testicular cells. The histopathological alterations observed in the ovary may be attributed to the effects of heavy metals in the agricultural, industrial and sewage wastes discharged into El- Nasria station at Omar Bey Drainage. This study concluded that the increase in heavy metals causes increased atresia in the ovary Tilapia zillii. Therefore, the technical treatment must be made to the agricultural, industrial and sewage wastes discharged into Omar Bey Drainage.

الوصف: The early half of the last century has witnessed a great attention to family Heterophyidae especially in Middle and Far East since infecting both man and animals. Seasonal variation concerning prevalence and intensity of fish infection. Fish specimens were collected from highly endemic region in Alexandria governorate during summer and spring seasons. Encysted metacercariae were identified and used in subsequent experimental infection of laboratory mice was carried out to allow morphological identification of eggs and adult worms. The prevalence of infection was much higher in summer (90.10%) than in spring season (54.76%).P.genata has proved highly infective, since all experimental mice had acquired infection. Morphological characteristics may help distinguish P.genata stages from other heterophyids.

الوصف: This study was applied on 140 fishes of two species, T.zillii as member of Cichlaidae and M.seheli as member of Mugilidae collected randomly and seasonally from Lake Temsah to investigate the prevalence of photobacteriosis. Isolates from two fish species were identified by morphological characterization, biochemical tests and API20E as Photobacterium damselae. 15 fish of M.seheli and 22 fish of T. zillii were infected with Ph. damselae subspecies damselae while 6 fish of M.seheli and 9 fish of T. zillii were infected with Ph.damselae subspecies piscicida. Total prevalence of Ph.. damselae subspecies damselae was 26.42% while prevalence of Ph. damselae subspecies piscicida was 10.71%. Prevalence of photobacteriosis was the highest in summer season and the lowest in winter season. Histopathological studies in naturally infected fishes revealed that there was necrosis and degeneration in livers and kidneys with congestion of blood vessels and hyperplasia in melanomacrophage centers in spleen.

الوصف: This study represent the concentrations of TPH in six commercial Luciobarbus xanthopterus , Ctenophyngodon idella , Cyprinus carpio , Tilapia zillii , Palaniza abu and Leuciscus vorax from Shatt Al-Arab river. The highest concentrations of TPH were found in Leuciscus vorax in during Summer 21.52±3.41 μg/g (dry wt.) and the lowest in Tilapia zillii 2.47±0.33 μg/g (dry wt.), while highest concentrations during winter found in Cyprinus carpio 8.2±1.0 μg/g (dry wt.), which is more than other fishes and the low concentration 0.33 μg were found in Tilapia zillii with level of 2.47±/g (dry wt.). The concentration in fish samples ordering as the following: Luciscus vorax > Cyprinus carpio > Ctenophyngodon idella > Luciobarbus xanthopterus > Palaniza abu > Tilapia zillii . This is may be due to the variety of fish feeding habitat and the season of reproduction , also the hydrocarbons found in the fish species of Shatt Al-Arab river are due to food and water sources, type of habitat, environmental factors, and lipid content .

الوصف: The age, growth and maturation of the redbelly tilapia Tilapia zillii introduced into the Haebaru Reservoir on Okinawa-jima Island were studied using 2197 specimens ranging from 7.3 to 168.0 mm standard length (SL). The spawning season was estimated to be from April to August, with a peak in April and May. The first maturation sizes of females and males were estimated to be 38.1 and 33.0 mm SL, respectively. The opaque zones in otoliths that form annually were found to correlate with the spawning season. Maximum ages of females and males were 7 and 6 years, respectively. The von Bertalanffy growth formulae were expressed as: LT=99{1−exp[−0.67(t+0.09)]} for females and LT=155{1−exp [−0.36(t+0.12)]} for males. Males grew to be larger than females from the first year onward. Populations of this species are characterized by early maturation life history parameters and are thought to adapt and become established quickly after being released into new water systems. Furthermore, extermination activity in winter is thought to be an effective strategy before the newly recruited fish begin breeding in the warmer months.

الوصف: Some aspects of the biology of Tilapia zillii were examined between October 1997 and February 2000. Fish specimens were collected using a graded set of gillnets and castnets. Out of 1486 fish specimens, 867 were males while 619 were females. Regardless of their sex a significantly high number of fish were caught inshore (69.57%) than in the offshore areas (30.43%). In addition 48.65% of all fish specimens were caught in the middle segment of the reservoir. A wide range of fish sizes were caught and the species was not spatially distributed (χ 2 cal. 27.39 2 tab. 67.51; df. 820). The species fed on a variety of food substances predominantly shoreline aquatic macrophytes, algae and plankton. The feeding rhythm which started around 6.00am reached a peak by 3.00pm in the afternoon and it declined gradually until 6.00pm.
