The article presents an analysis on the benefits of model-based definition (MBD) for three dimensional (3D) CAD/CAD systems with geometric information as replacement for two-dimensional (2D) or traditional engineering drawings. Researchers from ÉCole Polytechnique Montréal and the University of Quebec École de Technologie Supérieure have revealed that MBD can hasten and improve manufacture, design, and inspection processes for engineering drawings. Automated production engineering professor Louis Rivest explains that the adoption of MBD or 3D engineering drawings relies on a specific industry.
