مستخلص: The article discusses a study on the link between the number of risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD) and hospital mortality in patients with first myocardial infarction (MI). Data from the National Registry of Myocardial Infarction (NRMI) in the U.S. from 1994 to 2006 were used in the study. A total of 542,008 patients with first MI and with no prior cardiovascular disease were evaluated for five major CHD risk factors including hypertension, smoking, dyslipidemia, diabetes and family history of CHD. The study found that at least one of the five risk factors was present in 85.6% of the patients. The authors conclude that in-hospital mortality among patients with first MI was inversely related to the number of risk factors.
