This article discusses a study which investigated the rate of catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) for emergency department (ED)-inserted urinary catheters for acute urinary retention (AUR). Topics covered include the selection criteria for the adult male patients included in the study, the research conclusion that the rate of CAUTI for ED-inserted urinary catheters for AUR is high, and the measures to improve this, including attention to ED processes and patient education. |
