مستخلص: Using N-methylpolyborosilazane as precursor, a nanostructured SiBNC coating on carbon fibres was fabricated to solve the anti-oxidation of carbon fibres by polymer derived method. The phase and morphology of the coating was analysed by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS). Anti-oxidation properties of the coated and uncoated carbon fibres were investigated by isothermal oxidation tests. The results showed that the coating on carbon fibres was compact and uniform, the coating was composed of silicon, boron, nitrogen and carbon, and the thickness of the coating was about 30–70 nm. The oxidation resistance of carbon fibre was improved by the SiBNC coating which would protect carbon fibres against oxidation at the range of 400–800°C. And the oxidation activation energy increased by about 60·9% as compared with uncoated carbon fibre. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
