The article focuses on a 10-year cohort study, which assesses prognostic factors and the role of chemotherapy in unfavorable carcinoma of unknown primary site (CUP). It involved the review of medical records of 179 CUP patients at Taipei Veterans General Hospital, in Taiwan, from 2000-2009. Multiple prognostic factors were revealed by univariate analysis, which include lung metastasis, performance status, serum albumin, number of metastatic organs, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). The background, methods, results, and conclusion, of the study are discussed in detail. |
