Summary Effect of Cycocel (2-chloroethyl) trimethylammonium chloride on growth, yield and chemical composition of pot culture grown plants of Raya (Brassica juncea Coss.) was studied. Cycocel was sprayed at 3 intervals, and at 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.5 per cent concentrations. Cycocel reduced the height, leaf area, shoot/root ratio and slightly decreased the 1000 seed weight, but increased the branch number. It also reduced the total phosphorus and reducing sugar content of the seed, while it increased the total nitrogen and sugar level. Cycocel spray at 0.2 per cent increased leaf area and rootdry weight. The highest concentration of 0.5 per cent had greater adverse effects. Cycocel at 0.2 per cent level apart from reducing the height, increased root dry weight and leaf area without much adverse effect on the yield and chemical composition. Cycocel application at such a level would help the Raya plant against lodging and drought.
