مستخلص: The article describes a simple and effective one-pot protocol for methylation of the antipsychotic drugs chlorpromazine (CPZ) that is suitable as a laboratory exercise in an undergraduate organic chemistry course for science majors or an upper-division bioorganic chemistry course. CPZ is aphenothiazine drug used historically in the treatment of schizophrenia and is believed to elicit its effect through inhibition of dopamine receptors in the nervous system. Quantities of reagent per setup are small enough to be used with standard small-scale or microscale laboratory glassware and the reagents are readily available and reasonably priced.
