This article seeks to examine the causal relationship between air cargo and the economic activity of Mexican states. Analysis was conducted using Pedroni/Johansen cointegration tests, followed by Granger tests to analyze the long term and Wald tests for the short term, as well as an error correction model (VECM). The analysis was carried out for total cargo, which was then divided into domestic cargo on the one hand and international cargo on the other. The findings suggest the existence of long-term equilibrium and bidirectionality when total cargo is aggregated, although the causalities become unidirectional when cargo is disaggregated. El presente análisis busca examinar la relación causal entre la carga transportada vía aérea y la actividad económica de las entidades federativas en México. Para tal fin, se usaron pruebas de cointegración de Pedroni/Johansen, seguidas de pruebas de Granger para analizar el largo plazo y Wald para el corto, así como un modelo de corrección de errores (VECM). El análisis se llevó a cabo para el total de la carga y se dividió, por un lado, en carga doméstica y, por otro lado, en carga internacional. Los resultados obtenidos sugieren la existencia de equilibrio de largo plazo y bidireccionalidad cuando se agrega toda la carga, aunque al desagregarla las causalidades se vuelven unidireccionales.
