The article presents a study on the behavior of Ammonium Nitrate (AN) in fire. It states that AN is primarily used as fertilizer but can also be used as a blasting agent when mixed with fuel. The oxiding properties of AN facilitates the initiation of fire and it intensifies the fires in combustile materials. It also cites on the importance of understanding the behavior of AN under fire conditions to determine guidelines on how to prevent the incident from occurring or decrease the effects. It is concluded that the explosion of AN under fire conditions is very complex and it is necessary to have a fundamental approach of the study. It further recommends to perform tube tests with a vent in which the vent size can be change. |
