When Shi Huangdi (259-210 b.c.e.) founded the Qin (chihn) Dynasty in 221 b.c.e., he became the first of 210 men and one woman to occupy the position of emperor of China. Over the next eleven years, until his death in 210 b.c.e., he would create the face of China that would endure over two millennia. Of the many grand and lasting projects constructed during his lifetime, perhaps the most intriguing is his own tumulus. |
