    الوصف: Right one-way jumping automata (ROWJFAs) are an automaton model that was recently introduced for processing the input in a discontinuous way. In [S. Beier, M. Holzer: Properties of right one-way jumping finite automata. In Proc. 20th DCFS, number 10952 in LNCS, 2018] it was shown that the permutation closed languages accepted by ROWJFAs are exactly that with a finite number of positive Myhill-Nerode classes. Here a Myhill-Nerode equivalence class [w]_L of a language L is said to be positive if w belongs to L. Obviously, this notion of positive Myhill-Nerode classes generalizes to sets of vectors of natural numbers. We give a characterization of the linear sets of vectors with a finite number of positive Myhill-Nerode classes, which uses rational cones. Furthermore, we investigate when a set of vectors can be decomposed as a finite union of sets of vectors with a finite number of positive Myhill-Nerode classes. A crucial role play lattices, which are special semi-linear sets that are defined as a natural way to extend ´the pattern´ of a linear set to the whole set of vectors of natural numbers in a given dimension. We show deep connections of lattices to the Myhill-Nerode relation and to rational cones. Some of these results will be used to give characterization results about ROWJFAs with multiple initial states. For binary alphabets we show connections of these and related automata to counter automata.

    الوصف: Anatomical characters of Cenozoic pine seed cones are known mainly from North American fossils, while data on cone anatomy of Cenozoic species from Asia remain scarce. To date, only one seed cone of Pinus from the Miocene of eastern China has been studied using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). A new fossil-species, Pinus prehwangshanensis sp. nov., of mummified seed cones from the upper Pleistocene of South China is described using a combination of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and micro-CT. The new fossil-species combines a mosaic of seed cone morphological and anatomical characters observed in the group of closely related East Asian extant species of subgenus Pinus, section Pinus, subsection Pinus, comprising Pinus taiwanensis, Pinus hwangshanensis, Pinus luchuensis, Pinus thunbergii, and Pinus densiflora. The data obtained indicate that the characteristic anatomical features of this group were formed no later than the end of the Pleistocene. Based on the external seed cone morphology, the East Asian pine fossils confirm the existence of floristic exchange between continental Asia and the Japan archipelago prior to the formation of the Sea of Japan and later, in the middle Miocene to the late Pliocene, when the connection between the Japanese islands and Eurasian continent became re-established. Pollen grains associated with the new fossil-species are similar to those of some extant pine species related to P. thunbergii. A taxonomic and ecological analysis of the Pleistocene plant taxa from the Maoming Basin suggests that the regional climate was a humid subtropical monsoon with hot wet summers and cool dry winters, similar to the present-day climate of northeastern Vietnam.

    الوصف: Pinus (Pinaceae) is the largest genus of the conifers, characterised by needle-leaves usually in fascicles of 2-5 and seed cones with highly specialised and diversified apophyses and umbos. Although a denticulatomucronate umbo is the most common umbo type in the subsection Pinus, genus Pinus, this type has not been well documented in the fossil record of East Asia. Here, we describe exquisitely preserved seed cones and associated needles as Pinus weichangensis sp. nov. from the early Miocene of Weichang County, Hebei Province of China. The new species is characterised by ovoid and symmetrical seed cones with flat to shortly pyramidal apophyses, avallate umbos, and predominantly denticulate and non-geniculate mucros, associated needles in fascicles of two, fascicles persistent, leaf stomata sunken and encircled by Florin rings of type B-C. The character combination of the new species supports the assignment of it to the subsection Pinus, section Pinus, subgenus Pinus, genus Pinus. Detailed comparisons with related extant and fossil species indicate that P. weichangensis has close resemblance with an extant denticulatomucronate species P. thunbergii Parl. Our study suggests that P. thunbergii, native to Japan and South Korea, may have diversified from a continental Asian species such as P. weichangensis.

It is proven that large zonotopes in a convex cone have a limit shape, meaning that, after suitable scaling, theoverwhelming majority of the zonotopes are very close to a fixed convex set. Garbit proved that the exponential decreasing rate of the probability that a random walk (with all exponential moments) stays in a $d$-dimensional orthant is given by the minimum on this orthant of the Laplace transform of the random walk increments, as soon as this minimum exists. In other cases, the random walk is ''badly oriented'', and the exponential rate may depend on the starting point $x$. We prove here that this rate is nevertheless asymptotically equal to the infimum of the Laplace transform, as some selected coordinates of $x$ tend to infinity.
