The article discusses the findings of a study on the link between pesticide and fertilizer use and premature birth. The study was conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine. It traced more than 27 million live births between 1996 and 2002. It found that the highest rate of prematurity occurred in May and June, when pesticides and nitrates in surface water are at their peaks. While the exact link between pesticide and premature birth is still being studied, expecting mothers are advised to eat organic foods. |
