الوصف: Background: The sympathetic nervous system plays an integral role in blood pressure (BP) regulation, but the resting level of sympathetic outflow directed towards skeletal muscle is poorly related to resting BP. These findings suggest counterregulatory mechanisms that could mitigate the effects of elevated sympathetic outflow. Specifically, downregulation of adrenergic sensitivity has been proposed, though the relationship between sympathetic outflow and sympathetic neurovascular transduction remains poorly understood. Purpose: This thesis examined the association between sympathetic outflow and sympathetic-BP transduction. The overarching hypothesis is that resting MSNA will be negatively associated with sympathetic-BP transduction due to methodological limitations of the signal-averaging technique, baroreflex mechanisms governing MSNA burst occurrence, and α-adrenoreceptor responsiveness. Methods: Heart rate, BP, and muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) were quantified using electrocardiography, finger photoplethysmography, and fibular nerve microneurography, respectively. Signal-averaging was used to track and calculate the peak rise in BP following an MSNA burst, and the nadir change in BP following non-burst cardiac cycles. Results: We observed moderate negative correlations between MSNA and sympathetic-BP transduction in a large sample of normotensive adults. Further, we developed a log-linear normalization approach to correct for MSNA during cross-sectional comparisons of sympathetic-BP transduction. In addition, the timing of MSNA burst occurrence relative to cyclic oscillations in BP appears to be a key determinant of the sympathetic-BP transduction, considering the paradoxical reductions in BP following MSNA bursts firing distinctly above the mean BP set-point. Reflex sympathoexcitation using baroreceptor unloading increased MSNA but not the proportion of MSNA bursts firing above the mean BP set-point, highlighting distinct differences between tonic vs. reflex sympathetic outflow on sympathetic-BP ...

الوصف: Introduction: Postpartum depression is the most common pathology of the post-natal period. There is no systematic screening in France despite its high prevalence; 10 to 15% of women suffer from this post-natal depression. Moreover, 50 to 60% of perinatal depressions are not diagnosed. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of patients at risk of postpartum depression in post-natal care at the Conception University Hospital in Marseille and to identify early risk factors for this pathology.Material and methods: 96 patients were interviewed using a self-administered questionnaire to collect socio-demographic and clinical data as well as an EPDS score on the third day of postpartum. The EPDS score was repeated at one month of postpartum by telephone. Statistical tests (Chi2, Fisher, Student) were used to determine the variables associated with the risk of postpartum depression. Results: 27.08% of the patients surveyed had a pathological EPDS score on the third day of postpartum; and 20.83% at one month. Three significant risk factors for postnatal depression were identified: bad experience of childbirth (p=0.025), psychiatric history of anxiety-depressive disorder (p=0.0088) and psychiatric history of anxiety-depressive disorder during pregnancy (p=0.026).Conclusion: Knowledge of the risk factors for postnatal depression should allow the identification of patients in difficulty during the entire perinatal course. Early systematic screening would be useful to reduce the prevalence of postpartum depression. ; Introduction : la dépression du post-partum est la pathologie la plus courante de la période post-natale. الوصف: The incubation of murine leukaemic L1210 cells in vitro for 4 hours (hr) with 10uM nitrogen mustard (HN2), a bifunctional alkylating agent, inhibited the influx of the potassium congener, 88rubidium+ ( 86Rb+) by the selective inhibition of the Na+-K+-CI- cotransporter. The aim of this project was to investigate the importance of this lesion in HN2-induced cytotoxicity. 86Rb+ uptake in human erythrocytes was inhibited by high concentrations of HN2 (2mM) and occurred in two phases. In the first hour both the Na+/K+ ATPase pump and the Na+-K+-CI- cotransporter were equally inhibited but after 2 hrs exposure to 2mM HN2, the Na+ -K+ -CI- cotransporter was significantly more inhibited than the Na+/K+ ATPase pump. In contrast, both potassium transport systems were equally inhibited in L1210 cells incubated for 10 minutes with 1mM HN2. The selective inhibition of the Na+-K+-CI- cotransporter, after a 3 hrs exposure to 10uM HN2, was not absolved by coincubation with 5ug/ml cycloheximide (CHX), an inhibitor of protein synthesis. Incubation of L1210 cells with concentrations of diuretics which completely inhibited Na+-K+-CI- cotransport did not enhance the cytotoxicity of either HN2 or its monofunctional analogue 2-chloroethyldimethylamine (Me-HN1). The incubation of L1210 cells with a twice strength Rosewell Park Memorial Institute 1640 media did not enhance the toxicity of HN2. An L1210 cell line (L1210FR) was prepared which was able to grow in toxic concentrations of furosemide and exhibited a similiar sensitivity to HN2 as parental L1210 cells. Treatment of L1210 cells with 10uM HN2 resulted in a decrease in cell volume which was concurrent with the inhibition of the Na+-K+-CI- cotransporter. This was not observed in L1210 cells treated with either 1 or O.SuM HN2. Thus, possible differences in the cell death, in terms of necrosis and apoptosis, induced by the different concentrations of HN2 was investigated. The cell cycle of L1210 cells appeared to be blocked non-specifically by 10uM HN2 and in S and G2/M by either 1 or 0.5uM HN2. There were no significant changes in the cytosolic calcium concentrations of L1210 cells for up to 48 hrs after exposure to the three concentrations of HN2. No protection against th_ toxic effects of HN2 was observed in L1210 cells incubated with 5ug/ml CHX for up to 6 hrs. Incubation for 12 or 18 hrs with a non-toxic concentration (5mM) of L-Azetidine-2- carboxylic acid (ACA) enhanced the toxicity of low concentrations (< 0.5uM) of HN2.

الوصف: Over the course of the next decade, several nonhuman species are expected to be specifically conscripted and bioengineered for open release into the environment to address Anthropocene-related challenges, motivating a need for review of existing governance prior to any implementation of these novel technologies. One example of this is the “Mice Against Ticks Project” conducted by the Sculpting Evolution Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab, which plans to turn the white footed mouse (Peromyscus leucopus) into the first genetically engineered mammal to control the spread of Lyme bacteria to ticks. This proposed project was promoted as a community guided “responsive science” approach to an ecological intervention, emphasizing the group’s transparent communication and responsivity to public risk-related concerns arising from the alteration of a native species. A multispecies oriented ethnographic investigation was conducted to evaluate how the responsive science model would enact claims of transparency and responsivity and to what extent upstream engagement practices were ethically comprehensive and inclusive of both human and nonhuman concerns. Interviews and extended observations of a range of human and nonhuman residents conducted over time, indicated that responsive science outreach and proposed ecological oversight of the project in the island venue was demonstrably lacking, identifying ethical and methodological reasons to vastly improve the depth and breadth of engagement efforts. Inclusion strategies in upstream engagement efforts should be locally nuanced and include nonhuman and environmental interests as a mandatory step to insure potentially affected parties and/or their proxies are included in decision making processes in eco-interventions of this type. Given the unknown risks associated with the project, the failure to enact engagement claims and the existence of more benign tick-borne disease prevention strategies presently available and in development, the implementation of ...

الوصف: This research aims to explore new ways of assessing energy performance within housing units. The mainobjective of this work is to propose a heat dynamics model based on monitoring data, to contribute towardsan energy-efficient transition in the building sector. An extensive study on the available mathematical and statistical tools is described in order to determine aholistic solution, found in grey-box models. This model approach offers the possibility of understandingmultivariate systems, which can be applied to a housing-unit heat flow dynamics. Through the iterative process of testing each possible model, this work determines the one with bestexplanatory power, defining the thermal characteristics of the studied housing unit. This method allows thedetection of underperforming dwellings among constructions with high energy-efficiency standards. This investigation reflects the feasibility of employing grey-box models to predict the dynamics of heatrelated systems. Moreover, it sets the basis for new ways of employing the monitoring data of dwellings.

الوصف: At the end of the Second World War Italy, contrary to what happened after the first one, found itself in the ranks of the defeated countries and this implied the loss of the African colonies. The research develops from the need to understand how Italian public opinion was actually involved in the national and international debate regarding the future of the former Italian colonies and how Italy's return to Somalia with the international mandate entrusted to it by the UN was reported, while the19th century concept of colonialism was said to be outdated. An analysis of the newspapers such as La Stampa, Corriere della Sera, l'Unità and Avanti! will reveal whether there was a continuity with the colonial rhetoric of the liberal and then fascist period and whether there was a difference between the narrative made by the national newspapers and the party newspapers.

; [EN] In this work, the electronic transport in two of the most investigated semiconductor TMDs, molybdenite (MoS2) and wurtzite (WS2), has been analyzed using the Ensemble Monte Carlo simulator, since it allows the study of degenerate systems. In addition to the study of mobility at low field, an analysis of the drift speed at high field values (30 kV/cm) has been carried out. At temperatures of 50 K it has been observed that in both materials a saturation speed is achieved, losing this tendency with the increase in temperature, being in general higher speeds in WS2 due to lower effective masses, unlike MoS2. .

الوصف: Background Endoscopic and histological remission are both important treatment goals in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). We aimed to define cellular architecture, expression of molecular markers and their correlation with endoscopic scores assessed by ultra -high magnification endocytoscopy (ECS) and histological scores. Methods UC patients (n=29) were prospectively recruited. The correlation between ECS score (ECSS) and Mayo Endoscopic Score (MES) and with histological scores were determined. AUC were plotted to determine the best thresholds for ECSS that predicted histological remission by Robarts (RHI) and Nancy Histological Index (NHI). Soluble analytes relevant to inflammation were measured in serum and mucosal culture supernatants using Procartaplex Luminex assays and studied by Partial Least Square Discriminant Analysis and logistic model. Mucosal RNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis were performed to define differentially expressed genes /pathways. Results ECSS correlated strongly with RHI (r= 0.89 [95% CI 0.51- 0.98] and NHI (r= 0.86 [95% CI 0.42- 0.98] but correlated poorly with MES (r= 0.28 [95% CI-0.27 – 0.70]). We identified soluble BDNF, MIP-1 α and sVCAM-1 predicted histological remission. Mucosal biopsy cultures also identified sVCAM-1 associated with healed mucosa. RNA-seq analysis identified gene expressions shared between ECSS, RHI or NHI defined healing. A number of gene expressions and pathways were identified including inflammation, metabolic and tumour suppressors that discriminated healed from non-healed mucosa . Conclusions ECS represents an interesting tool that may sit between endoscopy and histology but closer to the latter, identifies gene expression markers and pathways that are also identified by histology.
