The article reports on the patent protection for software inventions in the U.S. It says that patent protection may be the strongest practicable means to protect an often substantial investment in product development because computer-related products on the open market can often be easily copied. It further stated that patent protection is particularly important for emerging industries whose research and development investment might represent a disproportionately large share of their available resources. Moreover, procedure in filing software patent at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is also presented. |
