In this article the author discusses the use of biomarkers in differentiating systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) from sepsis. He asserts that several biochemical indicators are evaluated concerning their potential to predict sepsis prognosis aside from their potential to discriminate SIRS from sepsis. Furthermore, it is emphasized that the regulation of metalloproteinases and sE-selectin in SIRS and sepsis can be used to distinguish between these two forms. |
