الوصف: In primates the sleeping site can provide a number of advantages such as: protection against predation, comfort, hygiene, thermoregulation, proximity to resources such as food and water, shelter from rain and wind, protection against parasites and territory. The choice of these locations is influenced by various physical and environmental characteristics. The aim of this study was to compare the choice of sleeping locations of Callithrix jacchus groups living in the Atlantic Forest and Caatinga habitats. The first hypothesis was that the choice of sleeping site will be influenced by the physical characteristics of the trees of each habitat, and it is expected that groups of the Atlantic Forest will grow higher than those of Caatinga. The second hypothesis is that the vegetation cover density of the sleeping trees varies depending on the habitat, and Caatinga groups are expected to be less influenced by the vegetation cover density in the sleeping tree. Six groups of C. jacchus were followed, four in the FLONA of Nisia Floresta/RN and two in the FLONA of Açu/RN. The Nísia Floresta groups were divided according to the area they occupied, being classified as plantation and secondary forest groups. Each group was followed throughout the day and in the late afternoon the height of the tree and the sleeping site were recorded. In addition, canopy cover was classified according to the presence of foliage. The number of nights spent at each sleeping site was also recorded. The animals from Nísia Floresta were followed for about 12 months while those from Açu were followed for two months. In all, 259 sleeping sites were recorded and 29 trees were identified as sleeping trees. Tree and sleeping site heights varied across the three habitats and a strong positive correlation was found between tree and sleeping site height within each habitat. Comparison of vegetation cover within each habitat in terms of tree height was significant only in Caatinga and comparison in relation to the height of the sleeping site showed no ...
