الوصف: Anchoring components are added to wearable robots to ensure a stable interaction between the suits and the human body and to minimize the displacement of the suits. However, these components can apply pressure to the body and can cause user dissatisfaction, which can decrease willingness to use the suits. Therefore, this study aims to develop a suit-type soft-wearable robot platform for walking assistance by providing comfortable garment pressure to ensure user satisfaction. The first prototype of a wearable robot suit was developed with anchoring components on the shoulders, waist, and thighs based on previous research results. Wear tests were conducted to measure garment pressure depending on posture using pressure sensors, and satisfaction surveys were conducted. The second prototype design was then developed, and performance tests with flexible artificial muscles and a satisfaction survey were conducted. Regarding the first prototype, the participants felt more than normal pressure in the shoulders and relatively less pressure in the thighs and calves. Thus, compared to the first design, the second design ensured a decreased garment pressure and resulted in an improvement of overall user satisfaction. These results can help provide guidance in the development of wearable robots by taking pressure comfort and user satisfaction into consideration.

الوصف: Objective The description of controls is important in acupuncture clinical trials to interpret its effectiveness without fallacy. This paper aims to evaluate the reporting quality of acupuncture studies on the characteristics of sham needles. Study design and setting Using a checklist developed from previously published reporting guidelines, the distribution of reported items and changes of reporting rates over time were investigated. Two-way ANOVA and linear regression were conducted. Results Original articles of RCTs of any design involving sham needles as controls were eligible for assessment. 117 trials from three 2-year time periods between 2009 and 2018 were included. Seven items out of 25 were reported in more than 50% of the studies. While significant differences of reporting scores among categories were observed, there were no significant differences among time periods; no significant improvement was observed over time. Conclusions Low reporting qualities of sham needles used in acupuncture studies may influence how researchers understand the effectiveness of acupuncture. This study evaluated previous publications from 2009 to 2018 and found that reporting qualities on sham needles did not improve over time. Further studies are required to validate the items used in this study to endorse better reporting of controls in acupuncture trials.

الوصف: Microglia are the macrophages that reside in the brain. Activated microglia induces further activation of astrocytes and neuronal cells for mounting an immune response. However, activated microglia release neurotoxic mediators causing neuroinflammation, which is associated with chronic etiology of neurodegenerative diseases. We investigated the effect of ethanol extract of Physalis alkekengi L. var. francheti fruit (PAFE) on neuronal cell death mediated by activated microglia. PAFE decreased NO production and IL-6 secretion in LPS-stimulated BV-2 and primary microglial cells without reducing cell viability. Consistently, treatment with PAFE decreased iNOS and COX-2 expression and ERK phosphorylation in LPS-stimulated BV-2 cells. Finally, apoptosis of N2a cells grown in conditioned media prepared from LPS-stimulated BV-2 cells containing PAFE was inhibited via downregulation of the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio. Taken together, PAFE alleviates neuronal cell death by reducing neurotoxic mediators such as NO and IL-6 from activated microglia. Therefore, it could be a potential candidate to treat neurodegenerative diseases caused by chronic neuroinflammation.

الوصف: Aegilops tauschii ( Ae. tauschii ) is a diploid (2n = 2x = 14) wild grass species, which has been reported as the progenitor of hexaploid wheat ( Triticum aestivum ) with D-genome. In this study, 68 Ae. tauschii accessions with diverse geographical backgrounds were investigated for their resistance to infection by the leaf rust fungi Puccinia triticina . Two Ae. tauschii accessions that exhibited hyper-resistance to leaf rust at both seedling and adult stages were identified. Utilizing two susceptible Ae. tauschii ecotypes and keumkang, a common Korean wheat cultivar known to be susceptible to leaf rust, as the negative control, further investigations were conducted for understanding the mechanism underlying immunity to leaf rust disease of these two resistant accessions. Resistant accessions displayed the increased β-1,3-glucanase activity to prevent fungal penetration and the better peroxidase activity to cope with leaf rust-induced oxidative stress. Moreover, transcriptional analyses reveal the important role of the LRR receptor-like serine/threonine-protein kinase FLS2 ( lrr ) to the disease resistance of the two ecotypes. Ae. tauschii is a remarkable genetic source, especially for abiotic and biotic stress resistance genes, as the plant is known for its wide-ranging geographical habitat and adaptability to different environments. This, combined with the fact that Ae. tauschii and wheat share a close evolutionary relationship, is indicative of the immense benefit of using Ae. tauschii as a material for improving the quality of synthetic wheat. Our aim was to identify and evaluate the strongest Ae. tauschii contenders for breeding leaf rust-resistant synthetic wheat.
