مستخلص: This article considers celebrities as objects of desire. The promotion of motion picture stars is one of the most time-tested and concentrated of the personality booster industries. Prior to World War I, film companies had already discovered the box-office gains to be gained by publicizing their stars. For all the demands to be close to the stars and to know what they are really like, fans relate to the created persona of a celebrity. They are reacting to objects, not human beings. The press, helping to create the image sold to the public of these special people, treats the celebrities as objects just as surely as the throngs demanding autographs. Celebrities are objects of desire. Fans want desperately to near them, to be near the created persona, not the real human being.
