الوصف: Cascading failures significantly contribute to the total demand not served of safety-relevant blackout events occurring in transmission systems worldwide. Cascades in the network can be triggered by multiple, concurrent contingencies that originate from different types of external (e.g. extreme weather events) and internal (e.g. random component failures) hazards. Given the stochastic nature of the latter, probabilistic approaches are required to assess the vulnerability of transmission systems to such threats, complementing the existing deterministic approaches in the security assessment of transmission systems. Framed within this research direction, the present project aims at providing a probabilistic modelling framework to comprehensively assess the risk profile of a given transmission system subject to multiple external and internal hazards. The framework will combine established PRA tools (e.g. hazard maps, fragility curves) with state-of-art quantitative models (e.g. Bayesian inference, machine learning algorithms) to estimate data-driven failure probability values and uncertainty bounds for system components, and assess the impacts of component outages on the system via cascading failure analysis. The proposed framework will allow for in-depth analyses of the security of supply of transmission systems, supporting operators in the identification of system vulnerabilities and in the prioritization of risk mitigation strategies to minimize the consequences of accidental events for the connected end-users.
