Intercostobrachial nerve preservation during breast cancer surgery for the prevention of postoperative pain: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
Almost half of all women undergoing breast cancer surgery develop chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP), and about one in four develop moderate-to-severe pain. The intercostobrachial nerve (ICBN) injury during breast cancer surgery is associated with development of chronic postsurgical pain, sensory disturbance and functional impairment. However, there is limited evidence whether ICBN preservation reduces CPSP. Therefore, we will conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the effect of ICBN preservation vs. sacrifice in breast cancer surgery patients.
