The article discusses the results of a study which observed the focal patches of abnormal laminar cytoarchitecture and cortical disorganization of neurons in prefrontal and temporal cortical tissue from 10 of 11 children with autism and from 1 of 11 of unaffected children. Topics include heterogeneity between cases that were most abnormal in the patches, layers most affected by the pathological features, and the probability of dysregulation of layer formation at prenatal developmental stages. |
