The article explains the importance of providing an adequate global surgical care indicators. It points out the failure of the health indicators set forth by the Global Health Agency Leaders and the International Health Partnership to reflect the role of surgical care and anesthesia as part of universal health coverage and health service goals. It proposes the inclusion of indicators including perioperative mortality rate, surgical workforce density, and catastrophic and impoverishing expense. |
