The author reflects on infective endocarditis (IE). The author notes the importance of decision-making in individual patients with IE about the patient's need for surgery and outcome as well as diagnostic or predictive test. The author discusses Troponin T and I as markers of increased risk in acute coronary syndromes as well as the mechanism of myocardial damage in the absence of obstructive coronary disease. The author also provides an assessment of serum troponin levels in IE patients. |
