The article discusses heart valve surgery. Although surgery to repair a failing heart valve is a safe procedure when done by an experience surgeon, recovery could take several weeks and is painful for patients. The Cleveland Clinic and Brigham and Women's Hospital have developed a procedure for a smaller operation with similar excellent results but with faster recovery. The less invasive procedure, pioneered by Dr. Delos M. Cosgrove III and Dr. Lawrence H. Cohn, is described in the article. |
