A novel DABCO-catalyzed Ireland-Claisen [3,3]-rearrangement of allylic acrylates to give a-methylene-γ,δ-unsaturated carboxylic acids in the presence of an excess of TMSCl and DBU in refluxing acetonitrile was developed.
