The article describes the case of a 16 year old adolescent boy presented to the Massachusetts General Hospital in January 2013 with progressive, recurring right hip pain lasting 3 to 4 days. Topics discussed include a biopsy which revealed grade 2 osteosarcoma and external hemipelvectomy (EHP) performed after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and the need to prioritize optimal soft tissue coverage and pelvic ring stabilization and free fillet flaps to circumvent the issue of donor site morbidity. |
